Lots And Lots Of Errors - V8 Is Bad

After countless errors trying to get my sites upgraded form V7 which left me practically starting them from scratch, I get 4 up and running.

Then I try and import a snapshot on another site and V8 locks up. After that very time I tried to load it I get the lovely Microsoft Error report - the send report / don't send. Lots of messing about and the only way to get it working again was to remove it and put a clean install on.

Luckily I had back ups. After lots of messing about I finally get the sites back and the errors continue.

Now When I add an adjustment to an order and then double click it to view / edit it I get an error pop up which says
'Attempt to scroll past end or before begining of data'
when you click OK the nice Microsoft error appears and V8 shuts down.

The adjustments cannot be deleted or viewed - I am not keen on this dodgy software with more bugs than an MPs office.

Are the people who answer the phones on the helpline only trained to say 'Have you compacted your database?' and when you say yes, they say 'Send us a snapshot and god knows when we'll look at it'

Any ideas froim anyone who knows more than the start up guide. I have lost a lot of confidence in this product.

The procedure which most of us have found works best is to scrap the V7 design, apply a V8 theme and rebuild from there - this has in my experience of many upgrades now not led to any of the errors you describe - he says touching every bit of wood in the office

I have done that on every site

I have done that on every site, correcting the layouts is a minor problem compared to it crashing and closing when I want to use an adjustment.

I don't trust it anymore - I am tempted to downgrade or move to another product.

The errors are obviously programmed in by someone so why does it take days for them to tell you what ot means, of at all.

Hmm.. from moving to v8 from our v7 site we only had a few errors, since our upgrade to v8 we have had problems but we have always solved.

Maybe its just luck or how the template is coded and performed in v7 and exected over v8 upgrades.

It relates to how much the V7 site was customised/hacked - a standard V7 site upgrades with very few problems but if it is highly customised then it can be difficult.

I'm not big on customising. I have always used Actinic themes using my images and colours. Very minor changes.

I have used Actinic for years since V4 and every upgrade has been pretty smooth. At the moment its too scarey to touch anything in case it locks - no its not my PC before you try that one.

We can sit here all day and swap stories on how rough or smooth our move to V8 was. My biggest moan is that no one can say what is causing the problem. It has an Actinic programmed response to the error so whats the problem?

              David

I can only presume you have a heavily customised site which is why you get upgrade these problems, i have and am now working on site No 4 have only experienced upgrade problems to do with the layouts and minor script changes that need to be put back in.

If you do not have a heavily customised sites then the problem is with your system - before you say no - I have run actinic V5 to V8 on the same PC however V8 gave me some issues due to resources e.t.c so i stuck in another newer PC with very little software apart from office xp pro, apache webserver and mail server running and this system has been completely trouble free. with the V8

Problems, just because a piece of software fails it could be caused by any 1000's of different pieces of software around.

As for support if you do not send your snapshot how are they going to look at it, most of the problems are corrupt databases and for this you can point the finger and MS dodgy programming.

As darren says there are loads of other factors - have you tried running your site on another PC

I am using V8 Business Multisite - when I license a new site and the new demo site appears I can add / edit / delete adjustments properly.

The adjustments are only corrupt on the sites I have imported - There - does that rule out my PC, or does it become faulty just on my sites.

My site isn't heavily customised and I have sent support a snapshot. The reason for me posting on the forum is that none of the support staff can help and can give no time frame as to when the problem will be looked at.

Well they stand a better chance than us - we are only offering suggestions.

possibly the fact that your site goes back to v4 is causing the issues, even though the upgrades to date have been problem free.

Given that you have upgraded to 8, although with errors, you've got nothing to lose by sending a snapshot to actinic, I've had stuff processed really quickly by them - ie within 24 hours.

Also another thing to try would be to take a hierarcical export of your data, and import this into a clean site1 using the default v8 theme, see if thismakes it any better

                        Hi David,

I'm sorry that you've been having these problems.

What you're experiencing with v8 isn't a common problem although there has been one similar other report. Even then, it's not clear if it's the same issue or not. The support person you contacted looked at your snapshot and tried to resolve the problem, and then found the similar issue to see if he could find a fix as a result. Unfortunately he couldn't so he then escalated it to the developers.

Looking at the internal Actinic reporting system, your snapshot was downloaded by a developer at 15.57 today. So far all he has said in the report is: "Downloading zip file and checking it..".

So I can assure you that it is being looked at currently and hopefully will be resolved soon.

                        Chris

If this is true then IMO you are wasting everyones time posting for help - give Actinic some time to slove the issues.

I have simular problem reported three weeks ago to support and no answer so far. Have not tried on new demo site but fault shows up on all 7 sites

                            Also on 8.4 upgraded from 7.5 to 8.2, 8.3,8.4

Also when exporting to sage the exported shows on main computer on completion of link export, but on multi-user "user" computer it still still shows order as printed and noe as it should "Exported"

Pardon me for asking - but the reply below proves my point of attcking on all fronts. I have experience with actinic support an have generally found support through the forum more helpful even if I haven't used it for a while.

I didn't realise you were moderating or judging what is fit to submit. I'll take the post as an attempt to score brownie points with Actinic.

It's quite simple - if you can't help, Don't reply
