Part of the issue here is people who reply in the community are volunteers and therefore are under no obligation to post.

additionally people are not going to spend time looking at an issue that actinic are also looking at.

As you say if someone has already seen the error and knows the solution they would post the info. I suspect that you have a unique set of circumstances therefore the lack of replies. In the absence of "knowing" the solution some people have offered suggestions.

Its interesting that most of the replies are telling me to do things which have nothing to do with solving my problem.
People have been trying to get you up and running by offering alternate ways of upgrading your sites which will get around the problem you have.

From your initial post, it seems that you have a problem with your database - possibly with the order details table for adjustment records. This can only be resolved by someone taking your database/snapshot, finding the invalid records and correcting them, which it seems is being done by Actinic ATM.

So you just have to be patient if you want to use V8, if you can't wait, you'll have to either try to upgrade the site using one of the methods listed here or downgrade.

        Problem Fixed

I appreciate any replies as I'm sure everyone does. I just take objection when I'm told I shouldn't be posting - free country and all that.

Anyway ranting over - I have the solution, Thank you Actinic Support so far it has cured the problem.

I would still like to point out when I moved from 6 to 7 it took me a day. I'm nearly a month on going from 7 to 8 and still working on it.

V8 will be good, just released miles too soon.

There are few businesses in life that would go onto a forum and basically provide constant help and advice for free, some of which will be reducing their own or another developers possible workload.

Actinic developers, having been through the s@@t V8 threw at them for 6 months (in their own unpaid time) are now building a forum, where ultimately the work they could get is going to be somewhat reduced as there is now a fantastic resource online for self-developers.

One only has to have read the last spate of posts over the past 10 days or so, to note that users now try and solve a problem for 3 minutes and then post a thread asking for someone else to do it for them.

I can't think of any other business in the world that openly and constantly tries to put themself out of business - it's about time that Kamikaze attitide was appreciated and respected by the forum.

Def. appreciated by non technical people like me who can't afford website designers so have to run the gauntlet alone.

                      Hi Chris

The reason why this may be happening is because the OrderDetail table has either been altered in some way or somehow got corrupt. In David Brown's case the problem was with the ID fields(either empty or removed) and we had offered him the following solution . Please see if that applies to you as well.

                      Solution as follows

"You will need to repair the Database(ActinicCatalog.Mdb), to repair it you need to open it up in Access(and if necessary upgrade it to a 2000 format). Open the OrderDetail table and look for “OrderDetailID” column. Remove any records that have a blank entry in the “OrderDetailID” column. Now view the table in Design view and go to View | Indexes. Set the second “OrderDetailID” row (Primary key) to Primary = yes. Save the database and restart Actinic. "
Make sure you have full backups before attempting this. Let us know how it goes

As I'm in the position of just starting an upgrade from V5 to MU8, my experience has been:

Start with a clean V8 template - as has already been said, it sounds like trying to upgrade old or modded templates (mine are both ) is where a lot of the problems seem to lie.

As far as the data goes, I followed Chris Dickens advice and simply dropped my V5 database directly into V8, and let it upgrade the data - which it appears to have done hassle free.

No need to snapshot, export, import, simply copy and paste the actinic database from the V5 directory into the new V8 directory, and let it follow its automatic upgrade path.

                          Kiran

Found a number of Empty "Orderdetailid" lines and deleted them ok

Can you explain the 2nd part again as I cannot findview indexes?

Whilst having the table open in MS Access change to Design View (the leftmost icon on the toolbar) then on the Menu Bar select View - Indexes.

                              Thanks Kiran / Duncan

This appears to have solved the problems we were having, 27 orders had no ID on the large site and 1 - 5 on the others

Prehaps Chris Dickens can log it as a cure somewhere as we never go it resolved ourselves by support

                              Many thanks

It's a pity you don't seem to have grasped the point of the forum - we are all here to help each other. That means giving help to others as well as asking for help. When you got the solution from Actinic Support, and stated that on the forum, at least 2 other subscribers, both of whom are regular contributors who have given help to many, asked you to post the solution to help them, but you failed to do so. Eventually, when it was obvious that you were not going to respond, Kiran from Actinic intervened and posted the solution.

Remember the forum is a two-way street. By all means ask for help when you are stuck, but also be prepared to reciprocate when you have the solution to someone else's problem.
