    Editing products in Access

Sorry if this is covering old ground. I've done a search with no luck.

I'm pretty dim when it comes to software and have just been playing with Access where I have found you can edit products and the results are transferred to the site. This is a big thing for us as we often have multiple duplicates as products often fit in several sections. When a product sells out it's easy to sometimes leave a duplicate on the site.

So, I did a search in access for a unique product number and it came up with the product and all duplicates! I was able to quickly mark them all hidden with the HTML tickbox and the next time I opened actinic they werw indeed hidden.

I can just hear the old timers here whispering 'FFS' under their breath but this is a breakthrough for me.

So, my question is:- Is it OK to edit products in this way or will I corrupt the whole site leading to my ultimate downfall and descent into a world of filth and disharmony?

If you hide the master product on the site and click 'reset duplicates', it hides them all as far i can remember. You want to stay out of the database as much as possible IMO.

take care to back up the database before you get your sticky fingers in there.

with great power, comes great responsibility...

actinic makes a lot of the numbers itself, particularly primary keys responsible for searching and locatiing products internally, in the actinic app.

if you dont add, or delete any rows, then editing the bsupresshtml field is fine.

try also in access: hiding those rows you dont need.

when you are done fiddling, before you purge the items in actinic, make sure to compact the database.

Thought so, I'll leave well alone. Thanks for the tip Lee. That will save loads of time.
