"Back to Main Page" . . . logs my clients out of the catalog completely.

My clients are clicking on the "back to main page" link in the top level section and they are not going to the main products page - they are getting logged completely out of the store. I have found the link on the design section and it indicates "index.html". I have changed this link to "Act_Primarycart" and "Act_Catalogbody" and uploaded each time only to get a "access forbidden" at the login page. Can you please help me resolve this crazy situation? Thank you, Mark

In the 'Design' tab click on the 'Back To Main Page' link, this should show you the 'Compact Parent Section List' or similar Layout selectors, click on where it says 'Click here to edit List layout settings' and check the 'Overall Design' tab, against 'Start of List' you should see an 'Edit..' button, click on it and you will see where the link is coming from.

Here, substitute the variable within the <a href=" tag to the following link...
        http://www.truetape.com/cgi-bin/bb000002.pl

save and update the store. Your customers should now be returned to the main page.

        Kind regards,

your section listing is catalogbody.html not index.html - all that is on index.html is the logon

They are not being logged out, but the <ACTINIC:WELCOME /> which would show their username and status is not present on the index/login page (nor any means of navigating off the page)

Honestly, I would read the Actinic documentation and then rebuild the site with proper navigation, seperate index and login pages etc.

            Problems remain . . .

            Hello Bruce,

I have updated the following: under the "design" tab, I clicked the "Back to Main Page" icon in the content tree. Then, in "catalog details - Back to Main Page" section, I have changed the Site "Overall Page Layout" to the following:
            <a href=
http://www.truetape.com/cgi-bin/bb000002.pl> with aNew Layout" based on the same information.

I am still getting the same problem, unless i have not followed your instructions as clearly as i should. I have had a colleague also look at the instructions and we believe we have placed the correct information where it belongs.

            Please advise,

            Thank you - Mark

              You just lost me ....
Then, in "catalog details - Back to Main Page" section, I have changed the Site "Overall Page Layout" to the following:
              <a href=
http://www.truetape.com/cgi-bin/bb000002.pl> with aNew Layout" based on the same information.
Can you expand on this a bit please. The changes I mentioned were to be done within 'Compact Parent Section List' layout area, can you confirm you made the changes here?

              Kind regards,

                  Changes made so far . . .

                  Hello Bruce, Bill, and Darren,

Since I have already started with Bruce, my hope is to finish as he has recommended. At this point, please navigate to the link: http://www.truetape.com/sectionlist.htm for a snapshot of where i have made the change showing the <a ref = etc., etc.>

                  Thank you,

                    Mark,

That was done in the wrong place. I would suggest either doing as Bill suggested a few posts above.

I will try and explain what I was saying ... you have the panes set to show you the Section / Page details, you need to be able to see the 'Layout Code' which will display the HTML / code that makes up the page. You can go to 'Window' and select the option or reset the view. That will help you understand what I was getting at..

                    1) In Actinic go to the 'Design' tab
                    2) click on the 'Back To Main Page' link, that you see in the Preview pane.
                    3) In the 'Layout Code' view this should show you the 'Compact Parent Section List' or similar Layout,

                    You should see:
Click here to edit list layout settings
                    Compact Parent Section Link
                    Compact This Section Name

                    4) click on where it says 'Click here to edit List layout settings'
                    5) and check the 'Overall Design' tab on the window that opens,
                    6) against 'Start of List' you should see an 'Edit..' button,
                    7) click on it and you will see
                    <a href="TopSectionPageURL" target="_self">StoreName</a>&nbsp; > &nbsp;

replace TopSectionPageURL the url I gave you.

If you still cannot get it to work, I would suggest raising a ticket with support.

                    Kind regards,
                    Bruce King

                      Hello Bruce . . .

I dont seem to have the same section titles as your version of Actinic (I have Version 8). I can see the code, but cannot find where you are referring. I have even used the "find" by right clicking on the code and seeking "TopSection", but it does not find this information. The "Back to Main Page" link is high-lighted in the Content Tree on the right of the screen, so I presume I am looking at the correct code - but, nothing is familiar, based on the elements you are referring to. Can you send me some screen shots, or give me some idea of how I can go about setting up a trouble ticket? (the thought of revamping my entire site at this point is enough to literally bring me to tears! I just do NOT have the time to get this issue resolved by revamping the entire site . . . we are working LONG hours and still cannot catch up with all that needs to be done!)

                      Thank you,

                      Mark T

                        Mark

Heed some advice off people who have been using this software for years. Your site is far off what you need, just reapply a new theme, read the starter guide and take a look round at sites to note things that are expected as standard. While you are getting to grips with actinic, use a standard theme and begin to change this as you get more confident. You are trying to run before you can walk.

A standard theme will give you all you need to start with, don't try and be too clever, it often fails, keep it simple.

                          Thanks for the advise . . .

I have been working with Actinic since version 4 and have been modifying it, as thinkgs have grown, for 5 years. I have what appears to be a rather simple modification to make - call me crazy, but it seems even crazier to throw the baby completely out with the bath water. I hope that you can understand it has taken me hundreds of hours to get my store where it is now. A simple "start over with a standard theme" and build your store from there - has already been done, beginning with version 4. I have hopes that this can be amended with some help, perhaps a trouble ticket as Bruce
(from Actinic) has suggested. I would rather not throw the atomic bomb at my site, but engage in a surgical strike. Perhaps, i'm hopelessly naive, but it comes with having one's own business, i have found it never pays to be pessimistic.

                          Thank you,

                          Mark

                            Mark,

If, as the forum you are posting in suggests, you are now in version 8. Then it may be possible to make the site functional without a total rebuild.

If you want to retain the login page as the initial website landing page, but still direct customers to the page that has the section links on it when they click 'Back to Main Page', then use the url

                            http://www.truetape.com/acatalog/cat...html?NOLOGIN=1

this bypasses the login page and brings your customers to the section listing page without logging them out (in fact it also takes you there without logging in) - try it - just click the link.

                              URL Placement . . .

                              Hello Bill,

Thank you for your response - i'm feeling better already! Would you be so kind as to tell me where I place the URL in Actinic. It seems that my section titles were different from Bruce's (as noted above). Can you give me instructions as to where I should insert the code?

                              Thank you,
