Uninstalling Actinic

I put Actinic V 8 on my new lap top (old one was processing too slowly). I then installed Microsoft Office. The next time I opned and closed Actinic I clicked backup, instead of just backing up (as it had always done on my previous computer) it asked me where to back up to, i directed the system to 'backups, and named the file by date - 07092007. When I next went to open Actinic, it would not open and I got an error message saying that it was corrpted and needed a mirosoft access file version update, the link that it offered did not work, the error message also suggested deinstalling Actinic altogether and then re installing. I tried to navigate the microsoft site to this thing it said I needed but it was way out of my league. So it seemed easiest to de install and start again. I sent everything to the recycle bin. Then attempted to reinstall but now the disc will only allow me to 'update' - there is nothing to update. I have tried to search for any wierd actinic files that would not have been caught in the deletion but can't find anything - any ideas how I might progress? I have emptied the recycle bin

Hi again, I decided to run the install and see what happened - I got this error message

the file C:\Program Files\Actinic v8\sites\\sites.ini could not be opened

Any ideas?

I sent everything to the recycle bin

If that's literally what you did, it's a bad idea. The way you should uninstall programs is either through Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs or via the programs own uninstall via the Start Menu.

You could always open the Recycle Bin and restore the files you deleted. Then try a proper uninstall. That should clean the system up enough for a fresh install.

If that fails, some tricky Registry tweaking may be needed to undo the damage.

Method of uninstall

I did go through the control panel and remove the program. Then when I tried to reinstall and it insisted Actinic was still on the system, saying it wiould only add upgrades, I did a search for actinic files, the only ones it found were in recycle so I figured if I cleared them then there would be a completely clear disc to install to - obviously I was wrong, there is still something telling the disc that the program exists but I can find no trace of it on a virging system, the laptop was new yesterday - ther is nothing else on it except the Office Suite I added yesterday

It looks like you'll have to go to the Registry and fix it. Following is for XP:

Start / Run / type "regedit" and hit return.
In the Registry Editor, locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Actinic.
Right-click on Catalog8 and choose Delete.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Actinic.
Right-click on Catalog8 and choose Delete.

Exit Registry Editor.

Use Windows Explorer to locate and delete C:\Program Files\Actinic v8

Look in My Documents for a folder Actinic V8 and delete it if found.

That's Actinic manually removed.

Reboot for good measure and now try to re-install as a new system.
