no problem. I'll have a look at the AUG later (too busy at the mo) and try to work out what you did doing both methods that could have/did mess it up in case it's something you didn't change back
Let me know what the problem is following attempt you just made too, because I found a problem in the AUG method using 0,1 and 1 as the stock levels.
details here
In the component drop down permutations list, after populating the list, you have to select the individual product names (the hidden products) to show on the page.
The reason I set up the hidden products in the first place is because I wanted each individual size of hook to have its own product code....linked with EPOS it would tell me what sizes of hook were out of stock therefore stopping orders via the site.
I've had to use the full title of the product with sizes....like:
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 4
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 6
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 8
Because if I didn't at the shop end they'd just end up with:
Size 4
Size 6
Size 8
And wouldn't know what product it was referring to
My only major worry now is that search engines will see:
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 4
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 6
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 8
And I know this will cause problems trying to optimise pages. Has anyone any thoughts on this? or can confirm this problem?
I guess my only option is to use 'To make the out of stock option disappear' work-a-round?
tbh Bun, the way you have it set up is how most people would set it up anyway.
It's certainly the way I would do it.
So what did you actually do to fix it?
I see what you mean about the problem too, mind you. Can you not just deselect "use associated product name" after selecting the hidden product in the permutations?
That way you should get "size 4" appearing in the cart/invoice etc alongside the main product name (don't tick "no orderline for main product" in the general tab of the main product) but it'd still control the stock for the "30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 4"
I think that's right! My brain is a bit fried today

That's good to know.....at least I know I'm heading in the right direction :-)

Reverted all the layouts back to factory defaults then went though the AUG again.....but this time just used the 'OUT OF STOCK' instrctions as you suggested. I have a feeling that I initially added both

I've found that if I de-select the 'Use associated product name' in the permutations I don't get the 'OUT OF STOCK' text appearing....it just seems to use the 'Choices' options instead
Is this the same for you?

In the general tab for the main product I don't seem to have that as an option

sorry, thinking about it, that makes sense.

not to worry.
I'm going to have a play again later.
You have a workable solution though, right?
Out of stock showing as it should?
But your concern is that the full names are showing and not just the choices, is that right?
Been thinking about this (dangerous for me) and I think the only solution is for me to take a lead from the EPOS at the shop. They'd be able to put full product names like:
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 4
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 6
30 Plus Genomic Bottom Bait Micro Barbed Size 8
into the EPOS and as long as they generate a unique product code at that end I don't suppose it would make a difference to me here as I could always call the hidden products:
Size 4
Size 6
Size 8
thus not running into problems with search engines....etc and I could still use the 'OUT OF STOCK' text.
Be a bit of a bummer for online sales reports though.....as I can see my best sellers being:
Size 4
Unless the reports will include the master product plus the hidden product options?

your best sellers will just take the main product, regardless of options, I would think.
Never really thought about it, tbh, but a best seller can't link to a hidden product so it wouldn't show one
If you follow me?

Yep....understood, I'll try to test this over the next few days
Hi Bun,
I'm trying to do the same thing as you outline above and I have the Out of stock message coming up ok on the drop down menu. My question is did you find that even though the hidden product comes up as out of stock, people can still order it? I'm thinking that people might go ahead and order it anyway, is there something I need to switch on so people can't order an item when it's out of stock? I see in actinic help that people should not be able to order a component if it's out of stock, but I can't see where I set this.
Thanks,
Breda
Hi Breda - Not fully integrated it yet as we're just about to barcode all the products at the shop. But I think you are right, even though products have the OUT OF STOCK on hidden products they are still able to be ordered.
I know it's not the perfect solution but at least customers know that the product is not available.....as it was becoming tricky for us as products were being ordered and they were not on the shelves

I'll have to look at this myself......let me know if you get anywhere with it
In the general tab for the main product I don't seem to have that as an option
This will only appear if you set (in the General tab for the main product)
Component Details: Pricing Model:
to
"Sum of Component Prices".
This means that the basket (and the downloaded order) will only contain an order line for the component, and the price will be that of the component. The main product will be ignored completely.
Which is exactly what you want if I read your posts correctly!
This is what we also do - we have a 'dummy' product (with a dummy code) and then the components are the actual products with real codes (size, colour etc options).
