    Hi

What would be really good is automatic daily backups at a set point, that way numpties like me who didn't do one yesterday will not lose any work

Okay, I pulled the pin. Now what?... Wait!...Where are you going?

I decided to change the locations to separate Scotland from the UK for shipping purposes...
There was a bug in the very early versions of V8 which caused BIG crashes when shipping was changed - wonder if its back?????

I can see where you are coming from Denise but disagree. Does the Green Cross Code Man have to escort you over each time you cross the road, NO he doesn't you learn that if you don't look you are going to be in serious trouble.

If your brain can be trained to do that, why can you not make a snapshot before and after you change something and also at the end of each day? Is it really that hard? you remember to get dressed each day right or wipe your ass after a trip to the loo, how do you remember to do those tasks?

Most people IMO make the mistake of shouldering this on actinic not doing something, this is not right, backing up and protecting your data and time is mandatory IMO across your PC. Actinic is just a small part of that process.

Do yourself a favour and have a read of the snapshot tutorial on my site, i bet you any money you come off saying 'shoot i didn't think of that'.

If you don't backup, prepare to crack up.

I think compared to other website software actinic is pretty good in the backup front in that the snapshot feature is very easy to use and it protects the whole site. If you have ever built websites with online software then you would quickly see how good actinic is

Everytime Actinic closes, it asks if you wish to do a backup. What more can you do than that?

It does but that is only a database backup which IMO is not much use to most people - a snapshot backup will save the whole website not just the database and makes it very easy to recover and transfer the website.

Ive never had to use a database backup in 4 years but I use snapshots every day.

but when you close down, it offers you the option to do a site snapshot too!

There are lots of tools that will automatically backup for you, we give away a free scheduled Actinic backup program, it only backs up your database but this will protect your orders and your product details :

                    http://www.mole-end.biz/acatalog/downloads.html

It's called Easy Orders Backup and it about halfway down that page.

To backup everything there are lots of systems available - we use Mozy, it's free for up to 2BG of offline storage and $5 a month for unlimited amounts.

I only ever use the snapshot backup offered - it does offer both!

                          Hi,

Yes I agree about the backups, and usually if I exit the program I do one, but most of the time I leave Actinic open.

And when things get hectic here and I have two little monsters (aged 2 and 3) running around, believe me, its very easy to forget.

No excuses though I have taken about 10 snapshots since! Somedays though the Green Cross Code man might come in handy!
Okay, I pulled the pin. Now what?... Wait!...Where are you going?

                            Hi folks

I can offer some insight in to why this "Data Truncated" error occurs. It happened to me today and the tech support guy at Actinic told me to uninstall Actinic and reinstall the latest version then restore a site snapshot.

Not being one to resort to drastic measures like this I decided to look at the database using Access.

To cut a long story short I have found that the error can be caused when you create a product duplicate of a product that has a product reference that is 19 or 20 characters long. The reason is that when Actinic creates a product dublicate it prefixes the product reference in its database with the characters 1!, so if your product ref was PROD01 the duplicate reference would be 1!PROD01. If your product reference is 19 or 20 characters long then this prefix will send the reference over the 20 character limit and will crash the database.

To recover the situation you can open the Actinic database in Access and edit the Product table. Find any product reference that is over 20 characters long and truncate it to 20 characters or less. This will allow you to start Actinic normally.

                            cheers

                            Graham

I guess support are reading the forum for the answers now - this error has been quite common since the productID was ammended for duplicates.http://community.actinic.com/showthr...Data+Truncated
