its not "declined to comment", they're busy coding it so they can release it all for tea-time. this way, it will be about 1 hour before Gabe releases his new version of all those things

I just tried this and it screwed my customised layout and now the beta 2 is saying that there is a fatal error with my snapshot

Yup - I got a fatal error with a snap shot taken from the first beta and imported into the second beta!! Message I got was :

Operation aborted because the requested action was not recognised. Please contact your Actinic reseller or Actinic Support as appropriate for advice.
          There is 1 Fatal error

          FATAL ERRORS
The selected file does not contain a Site group - it contains a user-selected import. This could mean that the snapshot is corrupt, please try compacting the Database on the exporting pc (Housekeeping | Compact Databases) and then take another snapshot.

Importing a snapshot from previous betas, although may work, is not supported AFAIK.

Are you saying that if you have done any work with the v9 beta then you cannot import this into the v2 beta or the full version when released.

betas are for playing with you should not really be doing serious work in them or planning to transfer into the final version.

surely not? I've imported my Version 8 site to play with and done a lot of work and twaeks assuming that i would be able to simply upgrade accordingly when the full version 9 is released.

read the warnings given by actinic. No way would I ever consider designing in a beta. Once the live version is released I will be ditching everything done in the beta and starting from scratch.u

Don't expect to be able to use work you done in a beta in a final release. A beta is just that - a beta. You might be lucky and get the beta design upgraded but it cannot be guaranteed and is not normally supported. Database structure, variables, layouts etc may change as a result of testing and bugs.

update: trying to import a a v9 beta snapshot - did not work

upgrade v9 beta to beta 2 - worked

I do understand that the current version is of beta quality and should not be used on a live site but I do not understand why actinic has blocked the ability to import a v9 beta snapshot.

Like most users I am planning to upgrade to v9 when it is released and am only playing around with v9 beta to see how it performs. So far so good

Personally I have been doing a little work on the product side (cost price) and expected to have no problems with upgrading to the new versions as I had not done any anything to the html or perl with the beta version.

Note do self wait until full release before doing any sort of work.

Just noticed this message when I did a back-up in beta v2

                          Warnings
Snapshots created by unlicensed copies of the software are only importable into licensed sites.

I guess it's the extra security which is causing the import fails

We haven't blocked it, but there's a difference in data structure in the databases between beta 1 and beta 2 which is handled in an installation upgrade, but causes snapshot import to fall over.

Changes made during the beta program are not supported I'm afraid. I've put a note at the top of this forum to describe the issues.

If you tick the 'Highlight Edited Layouts' checkbox in the library, you can see all the changes you've made in beta 1. You won't be able to upgrade these into a full production release, but I often copy and paste them into a word doc for safe keeping, and then copy and paste them back again when I'm able to.

You could always copy and paste them into a v8 site, and upgrade that site into the production v9 when the time comes. You can then take a Design Snapshot from that site into the v9 site that contains all your upgraded content, pricing and orders.
