    Site feedback/testing

    Hi,

    My first actinic project which is soon to be launched http://gfc.alphaclient.co.uk/

    Please could anyone give me feedback, issues, problems etc so i can tidy up all the little things before it goes live.

    I think its pretty much there.

    Iv done multiple browser testing and im fixing all the little bugs...

    Any feedback would be greatly appriciated.

    Very large white space above the product images on ext info, move it all up, i have to scroll on a page where there is very little info otherwise.

      All main product images are hiding the other selectable images in IE7. (Image is vertically centering) in pane.

        Looks perfect! I think you've done a brilliant job. The lightbox technique you are using on the images works especially well.

          Thanks for the feedback,

          the extended images aren't in the same series as the main product image, would have been good to do but wasn't implemented at the time.

          With regards to the whitespace some products have a lot of info and the initial design didn't really cater for this.

          I appreciate everyones comments/feedback.

          Could someone comment on the checkout process?

          A few problems that i have yet to sort are checkout errors on the final payment stage ie when a required field isn't filled in.

          Id like to set the default font style/size for the site on areas which i haven't been able to edit.

          Its taken me a while to get the hang of manipulating actinic's design.

            I hope to God you are not going live with that as it is, that will certainly quash 90% of your efforts. You can't have an insecure checkout like that in today's marketplace, you couldn't really use that 8 years ago! Get a PSP!

            Your product images are still center aligned overlapping the lightbox images, get it aligned to top not middle. You also have a dropdown box with only UK as an option, get your shipping and tax settings aligned and that choice will be a static option, so 1 less click for a user. 'DO NOT ALLOW' shipping if band is not defined should do it for you i think.

              Hi Lee,

              It will all be secure with SSL not sure on the payment side someone lse is handling its integration, it will all be secure though.

              Im not sure what you mean about the product images? they look fine to me.

              I would like to change it so that the only shipping available in UK i will have a look at this 2mrw morning at work.

              Thanks again for your feedback.

                Here's an example of the product images hiding the other images:

                  Hi drounding,

                  I am not experiencing this problem with my version of IE6,7 or firefox?

                  I was testing the site on different pcs in the office yesterday, the product pages all looked fine in IE7 except for one machine which displayed the main product image out of place. This was very strange... I cant understand why IE7 would display the same page in different ways?

                  Here is my css for the placing of the product image:

                  *html .product-image-position {
                  position:absolute; top:1px; z-index:0; height:319px;
                  }

                  .product-image-position {
                  position:absolute; top:184px; z-index:0; height:319px; vertical-align:top;
                  }

                  I have recently added (vertical-align:top products are displaying fine in my version of IE7.

                  Please could you tell me if you are still experiencing this problem or any ideas on how i can fix this?

                  Thanks again for your help on this

                    Absolute positioning an image? I guess that will be why then tbh. Just sit it in a placeholder with correct alignment. You've introduced a step for no real reason and more importantly the use of absolute positioning is fraught with problems. Only use it if you really have to, you are nowhere near needing to.

                    You are also mixing divs, tables & CSS, you should be able to do all you want using one or the other, try not to use both, they often clash and cause problems. You also need to be very exact with all image sizes, one pixel out and it could trash the lot.

                      Hi Lee!

                      The reason absolute positioning is used is because there is a png in div floated on top (the magnifying glass)

                      I tried removing the absolute positioing but it resulted in the overlapped div messing up.

                      Im not sure about the best way round this... The site is meant to be going live 2mrw

                      I still cant understand why IE7 serves up the page differently for different users.

                        It is strange i agree, but i am only seeing it broken so cannot comment, if i click refresh then i can see that it tries to build the page as you want it, but at the last second it kicks the image down. Make sure your positioning and your images are pixel perfect. You are also losing your top border in firefox, i wonder whether its to do with you having 320 high images, yet specifying 319 height? Maybe something quick to try.

                        You can still go live tomorrow, you have 24 hours of work left yet if needed!

                          Hi Lee,

                          I have changed the image height to 320px

                          heres an example product:

                          http://gfc.alphaclient.co.uk/acatalo..._1_gaz208.html

                          Any difference?

                          Thanks for the feedback, i cant really test this issue...
