    Actinic Business Plus V9 - Anyone Got It Working

    finally bit the bullet and upgraded to the business plus version 2 user but having a hard time getting it working.

    We keep getting the error "sycronisation with the actinic server has failed and actinic must restart"

    This even happens on the main pc hosting the actinic files.

    I have even tried installing actinic on a fresh windows xp professional pc with no oher programs installed and it works fine when I don't select

    file -> multi user options -> share this sites data

    but this means that I can only use actinic on 1 pc

    Has anyone managed to get multi-user to work or is it just us ?

    I have already rased this with support but the 2 solutions that they gave did not work

    In a nut shell if we dont share this sites data (i.e. allows 2 users to access this site) it works fine, otherwise we keep getting the sycronisation error on both pc's (i.e. the one with actinic database and the order processing one outside )

    Some things to check:

    1) Go to 'Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services' and check the 'Actinic Synchronisation Server' is installed and running.

    2) Check your 'Sites' folder on your main PC is shared in Windows.

    3) Check your firewall settings on the PC to make sure port 4372 is open

    Hope one of those helps.

      It sounds as if you might have two sync servers running, make sure that you only have one and that both PCs are expecting to use it.

              This will only appear on the Services list of the PC where you installed Business Plus, not Business Plus User.

              If you've installed Business Plus and setup site sharing and the synchronisation server was not installed, then you need to contact Support and ask them to give you some pointers. Sometimes Vista doesn't allow services to be installed if you aren't running the application with Administrative priveliges etc.

              I've attached an installation guide for Business Plus that will hopefully help out people.

                  I did, and they said my pc was at fault* as the software is working "okay", so I've given up for the time being. (fed up wasting time on the v8 dmp file issue and the non-loading problem without more problems to resolve)

                  Incidentally everything else shares and networks as it should.

                    The set up guide mentions Business Plus key and Business Plus User key.
                    I have just been emailed 2 keys, with no explanation of them being different types.

                    How do I know which key is the user one?

                    As a side note, I was only actually emailed one key, and had to explain that I needed two as the software is 2 user, after which I was emailed a 2nd.
                    V8 multi-user was 2 user as default, and then you could add extra users at additional cost.
                    Has this changed with V9 Business Plus ie is it now 1 user, plus you have to purchase the second user key seperately?

                      Hi - apologies that it was not made clear what key did what. I'll have a word with our Administration team today about this. I am certain that the first key yo will have been sent is the 'Business Plus' key and the second key you were sent would have been the 'Business Plus User' key.

                      The way it works is all explained in that guide I attached earlier.

                      1) Install Business Plus

                      2) Tell Business Plus you want to set up a shared system

                      3) Choose where you want the Shared data to go

                      -- At this point you could import a snapshot from v8 into the v9 Business Plus and get it all working OK --

                      4) Install Business Plus User on another PC

                      5) Start it up and point it at your shared data directory.

                      As long as you've got firewalls etc. open this should all work fine.

                        I don't think sales/admin are fully up to speed with Business Plus.

                        There was a similar problem when V8 MU was first launched, where management were saying one thing on the forum, and sales were totally clueless.

                        I took out cover and asked for the upgrade from MU8 to Business Plus 9, and that I only wanted the keys, and did not want to wait for 9.01.

                        After twice being told my keys would be with me at the end of the day, on the third attempt, I was emailed one key.

                        On contacting sales a fourth time, I was then emailed a second key.

                        Neither key was highlighed as either a main / user or any other type of key - it was just 2 seperately emailed keys.

                        I have so far only installed on main machine, and not allocated a user account, but am now concerned that I don't know which key is which (if there is a difference as highlighted in your installation notes).

                        I await clarification.

                          When you use a Business Plus key, when you first start Actinic you will be prompted as to whether you want to share data or not. When you use a Business Plus User key, you will only ever see the option to connect to existing shared data.

                          The splashscreens also have different names on them.

                            I shall have a go at setting up a shared system as soon as I get a free hour (hopefully before end of week).

                            Have you any indication from admin why they are not providing this info with the keys (as I have said, they just mailed out one key, then another after I prompted - no mention of main key/user key)?

                            If they have sent me two main keys and not a user one, I'm assuming this will install just fine. Correct?

                              Ah - no, because only Business Plus User has the ability to connect to existing data. Business Plus can only set up shared systems - not connect to existing ones.

                              Please send the keys you've received to cdicken /at/ actinic/co/uk and I'll check them out and tell you which one is which.
