Something VERY wrong with stock control on offline orders in 8.5.3

grrrrrrr...these 8.5.3 bugs are doing my nut now!

Just received my first 'offline' order in 8.5.3.
Checked all stock levels in Actinic beforehand (customer tend to call when they can't buy something online and I often find out it's because they were getting an 'out of stock' message which somehow they think doesn't apply if they ring!)

anyhow... checked stock levels on 2 items before processing the order.
    Item 1 - stock level 4
    Item 2 - stock level 2
No probs. customer only wanted one of each.

Processed the order offline, as usual, and got a 'suspend level' stock warning which I shouldn't have (all suspend levels are for when stock reaches zero)

    Alarm bells ring!

Checked the stock levels of both items to see which was flagged up and the stock levels were as follows:

    Item 1 - stock level 2
    Item 2 - stock level 0

Now, I did EXACTLY the same procedure for these orders as I ALWAYS have done.

When I received the order I had put through Protx as the payment method because it enables me to NOT have to enter card details, dummy or otherwise, into Actinic.
This dropped it into the PSP Pending tab which, since upgrading to 8.5.3 and disabling the stock monitoring for orders in this tab, did not (or should not have) change the stock levels (I didn't check at this point..I will when I test again later)

Then I opened the order and changed payment method to 'phone/fax with card details etc' which it allows me to do without entering any details and shifted it to the 'pending' tab and should have adjusted the stock at this point (it is at this point I got the stock suspend level message)

Except, somewhere along the line, it'd depleted DOUBLE the stock.
I'll experiment later with various settings and checking levels to see if I can pinpoint what is causing it but, yet again, I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone else on 8.5.3 who might be using stock 'control' and processing offline orders.

Double your stock levels then and stop complaining lol .
This week 8.5.3 and 9.01 are going to give us a defining week I feel.

I'm having a hell of a job replicating the problem too!

However, I think I've sussed out why it's doing it ..will post back in a sec (still mid-testing)

Right, I've worked out what 'breaks' it.

        Offline order placed, as normal.

Get to the payment method (defaults to Protx as it's at the top of my list) and I scroll DOWN to 'send details separately' option, selecting it...then immediately change it back to Protx without pressing anything else.

The press 'next' to 'ok' the order.

The order falls into the 'PSP pending' tab but it HAS changed the stock levels.

Note: it doesn't do this if you go straight through selecting 'protx'...only if you scroll down to an payment method that WOULD have put it in the 'pending' tab and then change back again.

It's obviously changing the stock levels the MOMENT the payment method is selected (deciding which tab it's going into and depleting the stock (or not) accordingly)

It oughtn't be making ANY stock changes until the order is confirmed, IMO.

Granted it's not very often that this is going to happen as most people would select a payment method such as cheque or card details separately so the order goes straight to the pending tab.

Even funnier...try scrolling down to the 'cheque' or 'details separately' option and back to a psp...then back and forth for a while...
It depletes the stock for EACH time you landed on the 'cheque' option!

Surely it shouldn't be making any decisions about changing stock until 'confirm' is pressed on the final page?
What's worse is that cancelling the orderlines from the 'PSP pending' tab doesn't RE-stock because the PSP pending tab stock monitoring is OFF.

If you're thinking there's a remote chance of this affecting anyone other than 'indecisive' order processors...

If you select 'cheque' or 'card details sent separately' as a payment method then get to the last screen and CANCEL the order, instead of confirming it....it STILL depletes the stock.

        *sigh*

Hi Tracey - we've been able to reproduce it, but it looks like this problem has been in Actinic for a while and you're the first person to notice it. We've found it in 8.5.2 as well. We'll get it sorted.

            cheers, Chris
I haven't used 8.5.2 or I'd probably have noticed it.
I couldn't say if it had been in 8.5.1 but I'd be surprised if I hadn't come across it before now if it was...that, or it could account for some of my stock level mismatch problems I've had in the past

Meantime, I'm just in 'paranoid constant stock level checking' mode

            Thanks for looking into it.
