Hyphens in page names and image names

I notice that in my google sitemap all the hyphens have been 'escaped', should I convert the image filenames and product ref numbers to use underscore or does it not matter?

There is a general consensus that hyphens are marginally better than underscores for SEO purposes.

I personally tend not to hyphenate product refs as this can lead to issues with funky scripts ... this is more of a legacy throwback to v7 as v8 now allows PHP integration and hyphens can quite easily be stripped from the equation.

Jont are you not suppose to be doing something this weekend.

well i have used underscores, but this tends to be a throwback from years of computing and i can not compare that it is better as i have no data to say hyphens are or will perform well

I've always used hyphens in my product references and do tend to change Actinic's default underscores to them as I go too.
        force of habit now!
