    BUG: Design Snapshot Incomplete

Beginning to see what is causing some of the library problems i've been experiencing, a design snapshot simply does not do what is written on the tin. I can make some changes to an existing library on a site, design snapshot it (i'm told that this takes an exact copy of the library?), import this into a new site and it does not set up an exact copy as expected.

Two areas i can see problems with so far is the brochure navigation bar selector, for some reason that gets half emptied out and also the online price layout selector gets completely emptied out. Either or both of these together result in a site that cannot upload.

Come on actinic get this area together, this isn't good enough. I am spending majority of my time doing everything but designing sites at the moment. I have just licensed my 7th copy of a site just trying to get a clean database and a site that actually uploads. It would take a maximum of 60 minutes to make sure that a design snapshot actually works, please take the time to check each and every selector and layout, this is a really fundamental part we need to be able to use.

I reported the problem a couple of days after v9 was released. I've not used design snapshot since and only work with snapshots.

Just found a 3rd selector (StyleSheetLayout) that somehow gets your external design added into it when you register an external design. This area is obviously more complicated to get right than i think, but how long do we have to wait is the question?

I think it's fixed in .0.3 but I've not tested it so cannot confirm it. I also hope it all finally works as it's a pain working with snapshots etc.

Think of a design snapshot like painting a wall by throwing a tin of paint at it ... some will stick but the original colour will show through in odd patches.

can we have some programmer input on the parts that work properly?

I'm in the middle of a (secret) project that will benefit a lot of us, and i'd like to know if i can use this feature, reliably.

              so, what *does* work?

It not stable - you can do it several times and get differing results so I stopped trying TBH. You could contact CD and see if he can tell you more about .0.3

                  Hi Lee,

I've been trying to recreate your problem and I can't with a default site but can with one of your snapshots that I've gotten from a colleague. I can see that the 'OnlinePriceLayout' selector disappears but can't see anything wrong with the brochure nav bar options. I'm going to put this to development to see if they can debug it.

                    Hi Tracey

The brochure navbar half empties, it leaves half of them in there and takes half out. As standard it is full ie they are all available.

                    Cheers

I take it that you mean on the 'values' tab in the layout selector? If so, then it isn't doing that for me. In the snapshot that I have there are 10 layouts available - 4 in the left box and 6 in the right box - when I import the design snapshot into another site it is exactly the same.

Hmm, tried this again and this time it has put all the layouts into the right box and somehow copied one of the layouts so now I have 11 to choose from. That is very wierd.

On the values tab yes. On a clean site for me, it has all as available layouts, whereas when design snapshotted it takes half of them out (moves to the left). Support said to empty it and then put them all back in and do the same with the price layout selector and it will cure the inability to upload - this it did - but there is now another problem.

Design snapshots seem very erratic and they also seem to change in size even though identical, something very strange is going on, at least you are beginning to see it now also. Gary has a new snapshot he is working on.

                        Cheers

Probably the one I got from him

There is a similar issue being investigated at the moment for normal snapshots (here)- do you get the same problem for those?

Its only just finished uploading Tracey as he asked for a new one to solve the stylesheet lookup error. I have not seen erratic normal snapshot sizes at all no, in fact i have never ever had a problem with these.

                              Hi Lee,

I'm very sorry about the delay in getting back to you on this one but development are very stretched at the moment (as you probably already know), however, there is a problem in your database with selector/variable IDs. Development have given me a list of the selectors that are broken:

                              OnLinePriceLayout
                              BrochureNavBar
                              PSP Bounce Page Layout
                              QuickSearchBar
                              TopLevelSectionList
                              CheckoutLayout
                              LoginPageLayout
                              ShoppingCartLayout
                              StandardLayout
                              BrochureLayout
                              NewProductsList
                              BestSellersList

For each of the above open the Value tab of the selector in Design | Library, correct the list of offered layouts and click OK.

If the list appears to be correct then remove 1 layout from the offered list, click OK, edit the selector again and add back the removed layout. This is necessary to clean up the bad list of offered layouts stored in the DB.

We are looking into how this can happen.
