Log in Bug problem in V9

    Hi

I have been on the tech support about this and they haven’t got back me.

I have invited my customers to request a log in password by offering discounts.
I have had lots of my customers take up my offer, I have no problems sending them there passwords etc.

The Problem is actinic doesn’t work, it wont let them log in.
Tech support say it’s a long standing BUG.

Well honestly if it’s a know bug they should either fix it or withdraw the function.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

The problem is when switching sites and then uploading a site with customer accounts as this is corrupting them. The workaround is to close the software after switching sites and then after you upload the site the accounts will not be corrupted.

      Thanks for the reply.

When you say switching sites, do you mean between differnet sites on the same version of actinic?

If you do then I need to tell you that I have only one site on my actinic.

      any ideas?

Yes I do so obviously not the problem you are experiencing. Can you create a test account and post it (along with your URL) so that I can try it out please?

I'm getting a cookie error when I try to log in. Can you tell me if you have a Privacy Policy set up (Settings | Business Settings | Terms & Conditions | Privacy Policy tab). If not, can you try the 'Basic + Customer Accounts' and then update your site to see if that helps.

              OK then...

the P3P policy is set to: No Compact Policy

i have now changed it to ; 'Basic + Customer Accounts'

I have uploaded this, and its still showing the cookie message.

Will you try it for me?

Yes, it still doesn't work. I've been doing some searching for this and have found that there is an issue where the http and https urls are on different domains and because you are using 'http://www.indigo-herbs.co.uk' for non-ssl and 'https://secure.hosts.co.uk/~indigo-herbs.co.uk' for ssl, then this is what is causing the problem. Unfortunately, your only options at the moment are to either turn SSL off if it's not required, have the whole site on SSL, get your own certificate so the domain stays the same (if your host allows this), or switch off the login facility.

                  Tracy,

I thank you for your help, in trying to sort out this issue,

However, I cant say that I am happy about this situation, I have put in quite a lot of work on getting customers take up my offer, of being a log in customer.

I had checked with tech support, and read the bit in the advanced users handbook, about doing this and your tech support said it was all fine, and I should go ahead. All this stuff about SSL is unknown to me, I set it up with the help of tech support in the first place.

I am going to need some sort of fix for this problem, I will not being turning off the SSL nor will I be making the whole site SSL.

I am happy to pass this one back to actinic and say to your guys, that I expect the software to do what is claimed it will do when purchased, as stated in the sale of goods act.

                    Hi Steve.

I had a similar issue once we upgraded to version 9 with Namesco as the webhost with their shared SSL. It appears you're going for the same route and let me tell you, you're in for a shock. Although they claim to run Actinic sites, the Zeus server software is (for Actinic purposes) useless. I'm actively seeking out a new host to escape the escapade.

For now - this is the only solution with Namesco. Buy an independent SSL certificate, such as GeoTrust Quick SSL - it's very easy to implement, secures your site, and only costs a bit more than a bag of chips (around $250) Although there probably are other SSL certificates you can buy that will give your site a bit of security at, say, the price of a bag of crisps? Always remember an SSL certificate authorised by your neighbour won't boost your customers confidence - go with a name brand that has some recognition online, which for me - at the moment - GeoTrust does the job.

                    Cheers,
                    Grant

I'm afraid not, it very much depends on 9.0.3.

OK then what does that mean?

                            What about 9.0.3. ?

And why cant we have a fix now, for this problem? as its clear that the function of logging in, is not workable in our system.

When selling any product, it is important that it works. This is part of english law, I know that this is not always possible with software, but then an effort needs to be made to sort it out. When I asked tech support if what I was planning to do with the 'log in' was workable they said it was, now based on this advice we went ahead, this took time and money.

We are currently working on v9.0.3. When that is released we will start on v9.0.4.

And why cant we have a fix now, for this problem?
Because it is not a straight forward fix and it would require a lot of testing as making a change in this area could cause problems in other areas of the software.

as its clear that the function of logging in, is not workable in our system
We cannot guarantee that our sofware will work with every possible server configuration and suggestions have been made as to how you could get it working by purchasing your own secure certificate.
