    disappearing graphics

I created a .gif and placed it in Site 1.

I tried it and it was the wrong size, so I had a few goes at resizing it, and placed the files in the same folder. They appear when I examine the Actinic Program Files, but not in the Browse window when I try and insert them. Only that first file shows up.

What is the 'files of type' set to when you click on browse?

Are you using Vista by any chance?

possibly, when you resaved, you didn't add the extension (eg filename.gif) and perhaps your computer is set up to require you to?
If you view your site1 folder, do you see a file with the correct filename but of unknown extension?

Not Vista, I'm using XP Pro.

The files have the .gif extension. In fact for one of the experiments I simply used Copy and Paste to make a copy of the original, then placed the result in Site 1. It differs from the original only in the words "Copy of" and the date when it was placed in the folder.

File type is "graphic files" (the list including .gif). Actinic can see the original .gif, but none of the later ones.

I thought (with my limited understanding) that perhaps it was that, being in experimental mode, I've been exiting with Snapshot, so I made one, with the same result.

But you can see the fields in windows explorer?

If so then close Actinic and reboot the pc there's something fishy that may not be related to Actinic.

Is this a problem with spaces in the new filenames?

I have seen this happen but only if you do the copying while the file selector is open, closing the file selector and then trying again usually works.

I think it is something in the Windows caching as I had a similar problem where I changed all the images in a folder for a new set with all the same names. The thumbnails showed the old images, and after hours of hair pulling and fruitless copying I found that deleting the file thumbs.db sorted it (one of those hidden system files). The new files were there but the thumbnails were wrong.

There were indeed spaces in the new filenames, but so there were in the one that opened. Also, renaming one of the files to remove its space had no effect.

What is a file selector? God forbid that there should be new corners of Windows for me to explore.

the file selector is the page that opens listing all the files, sorry its programmer speak.

Did you reboot Actinic as Duncan suggested?

The obvious troubleshooting approach is to try on another computer. Can I import a snapshot from one computer to another?

Sorry. Yes, I did reboot. Have done so many times. Makes no difference.

Can you see the files outside of Actinic in windows explorer?

Yes, the files are there in Site 1, Explorer, and they open. It's only the Actinic content window that can't see them.
