    New Sync Server Problems

    Hi All,

We move offices at the weekend and since then we have not been able to get Actinic Multi User working.

I seem to of tried everything and this is really starting to have a negative effect on business now.

Basically, I've tried installing/reinstalling the software changing directories, turning off firewalls and we just get the following Synch Server error

"Actinic was unable to connect to the Syncronization server. Please check your network connections and that the Sychronisation server is running. Would you like to retry or exit Actinic?"

Can anyone please offer any advice.

    Thanks,

    Folk

        hi folk

Quick one, i had an absolute nightmare with snc server. First question is, was it running properly before you moved office?
        • Did you change any of your hardware? Router etc?
        • Have you opened the 4371 and 4372 ports in your filewall?
        • Have you uninstalled your antivirus on your server pc?
        • Have you restarted the act sync server process?

          Rick... thanks for the reply;

Everything was working fine prior to the move, however when I moved them to the new office, I couldn't find a ethernet cable long enough to I tried to set up a wireless network.

Although the remote machine would browse the net I was having trouble setting up the local network so I went down to the local pc store for an appropriate ethernet cable and everything apart from Actinic seems to be fine.

I did reset the router, and ive tried installing with all the firewalls switched off and running it with all the firewalls switched off.

No other software changes that i'm aware off since the move.

can you manually turn on Actinic Sincronisation in Control Panel | Admin Tools | services you should be able to stop and restart there

Have you turned off the wireless network as it may be causing problems if not being used

Is it possible the new cable is a crossover ethernet, can you move the computer closer and try out the old cable

Open the db and check the setup info table the sync server ip address is listed there. Then double check to ensure there is a machine present on the network with that ip address and if so that the sync server running on that machine.

                Hi,

Have been having problems with this as well and it was the 4371 and 4372 ports that were crucial for me. See

                Knowledge base link

for how to add 4371 and 4372 ports as well as other tryouts.
                Good luck

                  Hi Folk

Right first thing is i wouldn't advise running sync server over a wireless network unless it's on a 1gb system.
Second thing: make sure that your workgroup is still the same and that your IP range is still the same. Your sync server won't start if the IP range has been specifically asssigned and now changed.

Check those 2 things along with open those ports on your firewall and let us know what happens.

The work group did change... could that be a factor even after reinstalation?

Thanks for your replies... problem fixed.

I had been over everything so many times that it was just becoming a crazy situation.

Imagine my surprise to find that Windows Firewall was somehow running on the main PC and switching that off solved the problem. Truth is, because I was running Comodo firewall on that PC, I never even thought to look at the Windows one which somehow had become enabled.

Anyhow, sincere thanks for your replies.

Probably when you set up the wirless networking. Bet you wished you'd got a longer cable in the first place
