email problems in Actinic with easyspace

The site is hosted by easyspace and I keep getting an error message when it tries to send mail can anyone help?

I've tried all the obvious like changing it to localhost but nothing seems to work, have tried their technical department who say it's a software issue an I've tried actinic technical who tell me it's the hosts issue...
    Clarification added 2 minutes ago:
Nothing has changed, we are just setting it up. It's a valid email address not an alias, we've run a network setup test and get the following result,

    Actinic Mail Test completed successfully

    server: passed

    connection: failed

    sockets: passed

    communications: failed

    authorisation: failed

    message: Connection refused

We've tried localhost with no user name and password, and tried valid default email address that is web mail accessible which we can access so we know the user name and password are correct. We've used the control panel smtp details and all variations that have been given by easyspace to set up email in outlook, and have now run out of ideas.

Apart from moving from easyspace is there anything else we can try?

Easyspace's name has cropped up quite a few times on here, they never seem to have been a great actinic host, unless I have the wrong perception of course. For peace of mind, just move hosts, you could be up and running in just a couple of hours in your new home with your feet up. It will take you longer to solve (if you can) than move I suspect. Not worth the hassle IMO.

There are a few previous threads on this problem. One of them that might help is here http://community.actinic.com/showthr...smtp+easyspace

It's always a good idea to try searching the forum as these kind of problems have often come up before.

however my feeling is that localhost should work, as long as the email address is business settings is on domain

Unfortunately I think this is probably what we need to do, the downside is that it wasn't us that recommended easyspace to the customer, but a company we work closely with on several projects. The customer has only recently taken hosting with easyspace so it will mean extra cost to them to move hostings at this point.

Can anyone recommend alternative hostings in case we do move as a last resort.

Also is it possible to leave the domain with easyspace and move the hosting only else where, and is this a recommended course of action, and what is the process for doing this?

            Hi Mike,

We have searched the forums and tried everything suggested on the thread you gave us before we posted, and it still doesn't work.

Just move Steve, take the path of least resistance on an important area like this.

Your domain registration can stay where it is, you will need to use it though to update the 'named servers' that your new host provide you with. Personally I favour having it all under one roof though, it's once again just easier.

Webfusion, 1&1, tametheweb, actinic & pinbrook are all successful and well used actinic hosts.

TBH easyspace are probably fine as a host for home users and businesses who only run html sites, but actinic does require a degree of specialism that some of the cheaper mass hosts can not supply. As time goes on and actinic becomes more and more processor heavy the best decision is to choose a proven host who knows the software.

As well as getting a better hosting environment for actinic you should benefit from better support too.

Thanks, I kind of know deep down that we are going to have to move, and thanks for the hosting suggestions, I doubt we'll be using fasthost after reading the forums here . . .

Just as an update, we have tried using the settings from our own hostpapa hosting account and it works fine so it is deffo something at easyspace.

We'll try easyspace one last time with a threat to move the hosting and see if that gets us anywhere, if not looks like we will be moving the site.

Thank you to everyone that has contributed you have been very helpful.

If we do manage to get it sorted with easyspace we will post the outcome in case anyone else has the same trouble.

I would always reccomend leaving the domain reg at a seperate company away from your ISP

The reason is that if you have both together and have a problem with the ISP then you are in the shit as you probably cannot get through to change the DNS, where as if you have them at different locations you can just find a new ISP instantly and just change the DNS over
