    Loading images & browers issues

    Now i don't know if this is me or something else, but just recently we have been getting alot of errors in Actinic aswell as browsing our site in FF & IE8. I've just noticed recently that images aren't loading at all on some pages and only half of the images are loading and then pages are apparently 'Not found', click refresh and the page appears!? It's giving me the feeling that our site is unstable and not working correctly.

    The errors in Actinic are cgi-bin error and when i try to download orders i get a message tell me a certain .pl file in the cgi-bin folder is not there... press 'try again' a couple of times and it eventually finds it. It's not as if they've been removed from the server!?

    My only explanation that i can come up with is that we have a zoomify function on our website, which means we convert a high res image into a zoomify folder and upload it to the site manually to the following folder ...acatalog/zoomify/ folder name is linked to the product code. Now we've been slowly adding these folders into the acatalog/zoomify folder for sometime and have about 335 folders inside could this be slowing down the site in some way? or would it be better moving the zoomify folder our of the acatalog folder?... or should we look into hosting the hi res zoomify files on a different server altogether!?

    If you could have a brouse around our site and see it you get any of the browser issue i've been experiencing or anything that's i havn't seen myself that could be of use please let me know. As for zoomify, i could be taking a long stab in the dark at that being the problem, but it's the only thing i can think of atm. Anyway i've babbled enough for now. Let us know what you guys think.

    It's good practice to have you images in the Site folder or at least within folders held in your site folder. Have you tried relocating your images there?

    Make sure there aren't any spaces in your filenames too. That can cause a few problems in some browsers.

      Hi WebD thanks for your reply. Due to the nature of Zoomify we have to convert the image and that is then the filder generated is uploaded to our server manually. As i said we've got alot of these zoomify folders now 335 within /acatalog/zoomify and i think this maybe causing images to stop loading and these errors we've been experiencing when browsing. I'm currently copying our zoomify folders and removing them from the server to see the affect on the site. Have you experienced any problems browsing our site WebD?

        It's a little random. I thought it had something to do with links that had anchors (#), but after a little for testing I ruled that out.

        I've just visited this page:

        http://www.classixshop.com/acatalog/toxico.php

        It had a couple of missing images, I refreshed the missing images populated, but then images that had previuosly displayed were missing, a 2nd refresh and different sets of images came and went.

        Refresh again and I get a "ooppps page not found", refresh again and everything displays as it should.

        Have you tried a purge and refresh with a script ID increase?

          I then click on the men's link and the image disappears while the page loads, then this page:

          http://www.classixshop.com/acatalog/toxico-mens.php

          Seems to be missing your actinic.css

          Code:
          <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="actinic.css">
          1<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
          2<HTML><HEAD>
          3<TITLE>404 Not Found</TITLE>
          4</HEAD><BODY>
          5<H1>Not Found</H1>
          6The requested URL /acatalog/actinic.css was not found on this server.<P>
          7</BODY></HTML>
          8
          </link>

            Well after removing all the zoomify folders from the acatalog/zoomify folder (all 27,049 files!) I was still seeing the same problem throughout the site. I've since uploaded the zoomify files back onto the server and am carrying on as usual. All I can think is that there is some kind of server issue with 'Fasthosts' atm and will be contacting them in the morning.

            As for the link you gave it seems to work fine for me now. As I was saying it's totally unpredictable what page/image load and what don't, all the files are on the server but something’s not pulling them properly. I've not made any significant changes to the site for some weeks now so I am at a bit of a loss.

            Answers on a postcard please! lol

            Thanks for the replies so far

              Has anything changed on your server? Who is your host, have you contacted them to see if they've changed anythng?

                We are hosted through Fasthosts and to my knowledge nothing has been changed by us. I think i need to make a phone call in the morning, but i'm still stumped as to what is going on... Not impressed

                  I was wondering if that was going to be your answer. Fasthosts and Actinic, on the whole, do not mix.

                  There's lots on the forum on this I'm afraid.

                    Oh dear i was unaware of that i'll have to do some searching on the forum for some posts on this matter. The site seems to be responding properly at the moment *finger crossed*. I've already contacted our hosting company and am awaiting a reply to see if they've changed any workings at their end.

                    Question: What are the best hosting companies to use an Actinic site with?

                      There are a several recommended on here. If you check the signatures of other members you'll see that some offer hosting. I use Darren at Tame the Web and can't fault him.
