FTP and SMTP errors!

Orders can be downloaded from the server without error but we're getting the following errors when running a "Test" in Advanced Network Setup;

An error occurred when trying to connect to the server. This can happen when the server is unreachable or you have set up an SSL server, but this server can not accept SSL connections, or Windows is confused about proxy settings. If you have Internet Explorer or another application configured to work with a proxy, the settings should be the same for Actinic. Please check your connection first.

and the following when trying to do a site refresh (gets stuck on the "Creating remote directory structure" phase);

An FTP error occurred. Error: A connection with the server could not be established

I've created new FTP user accounts, tested using the domain and IP address etc.

We're also having problems sending out order confirmation emails;

Can't replicate the error message at the moment. Will update if I can.

This is despite the same SMTP settings working fine through both Thunderbird and Outlook but for some reason Actinic isn't playing ball with the same settings.

For anyone to be able to help you'll need to export and post your network settings (without password and usernames) and tell us your host and your hosting package.

webhosting.uk.com on their SUPREME package (http://www.webhosting.uk.com/cpanel-hosting.php) cPanel/Linux based with the "standard" features.

Got rid of that.

You could try disabling passive ftp. Sometimes passive ftp makes things better, sometimes it makes it worse.

Not an expert in this area, but isn't it inconsistent to have:

SMTPAUTHREQUIRED false

together with an SMTP user name and password:

SMTPUSERNAME no-reply@websiteurl.co.uk
SMTPPASSWORD passwordremoved

If an SMTP user name and password are required, shouldn't it be:

SMTPAUTHREQUIRED true

means username and password will be ignored

so it doesn't really matter until you are using AUTH when of course you need TRUE and username/password

Thanks for the posts people. We've managed to resolve the email issues but are experiencing a strange problem with uploads. Downloading of orders is working fine at all time but every day at exactly the same time (around 4PM) until around 7AM the following morning uploads are not working. We get the following error;

An FTP error occurred. Error: A connection with the server could not be established

Uploading seems to stop on Checking search indicies/Creating remote directory structure each time.

Here is a screenshot of the error;



From 7AM(ish) until 4PM(ish) uploads work fine but as soon as 4PM(ish) comes the uploading aspect of Actinic stops working!

Any ideas?

Have you asked your hosts if anything on their system changes "out of office hours"??

Perhaps it's something related to your ISP then.

I've just downloaded FTP onto the clients computer and tried to connect to the same hosting account being used for Actinic and it came up with the following;

Status: Connecting to 115.124.117.240:21...
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Connecting to 115.124.117.240:21...
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...

After this I tried connecting to 2 unrelated hosting servers (through FileZilla) and wasn't able to (same error as above).

Nope, it happens at around 4PM regardless of whether my PC and the client's are link with TV.
