    Actinic Dropdowns

We've been using dropdown navigation on the front page of stinkyink for a while now to let customers quickly find the cartridges for their printer. The system we are using was built specifically for our database so unfortunately we could not distribute it for other sites.

Over the past few weeks we've developed a generic version of the dropdowns which can be used on any Actinic site. We've put up a demo of it in action here (check out the 'clothing' section for a section which goes three levels deep). More information and a download link is available here.

We've had a few requests for this in the past so hopefully it will be useful to some of you. If you have any questions, drop me an email at robs at stinkyink.com.

      dropdowns

      Hi alison,

Have you got the dropdowns starting at the top level section? I need to start it from a section of my choice, have read the instructions but can't get it to work. I can get it to work from top level though.

ps--it is a great little tool.

      Cheers

Are you struggling to get the sectionID?

          section id

i got the section id by typing sectionid in the layout which then gave me the digits in the top left of design view. I then changed null at the top of the export.txt file to the sectionid number...but it carried on putting the drop downs in using the top level. just wondering if there is anything else i would need to change to change the starting section level.

From what i recall reading, i thought you added the IDs of the sections you wished to omit, not the ID of where you want to start. It's entirely possible that i completely misread the file though as i was just reading it, not installing it.

              Top Level

              Hi

I am just having a play with it now - but will be done from the top level section for the site I am working on at the moment.

Have to say I am stuggling a little - not great with the design side of actinic, but will persever with it

              Thanks

                drop downs

You can do that Lee , but i have hundreds id have to go through. Rob has recently added the function that you can start the dropdown at what ever section you like. which is great as we dont want to use the top level section and only want it to drill down one of the sections and it's subsections.

                cheers

Hey guys, sorry I haven't replied recently, I thought I was subscribed to the thread but did not receive any emails about new replies.

If you're still having trouble getting it to start from a new level, there are a couple of things you can try to make sure that Actinic is properly exporting the data:
                  • Try deleting everything in your Site1/dropdowns/data directory and make sure it gets filled in when it does an upload. If this isn't working properly the problem is probably elsewhere.
                  • Make a change to the place where you put the Actinic dropdowns code and hit apply. This might force Actinic to see it as changed and then upload it properly the next time you update the site.
                  • Make sure the Section ID is accurate. I had this issue a couple of times where I'd convinced myself the ID was something completely different to what it should have been. Double-checking the section ID through the variable sorted it out though. Also make sure the section has sub sections otherwise it won't work.

If you're still having problems post here or drop me an email and I will try to help you out.

                      Hi Allison,

Is siteincludes.php in your Site1 directory? If not that is likely causing the problem.

People using this should probably be aware that section ids change when you move sections around in your site. So you may have to update the plugin details if you set it up and then make changes to the section structure.

                          Off Topic

A little off topic, but thanks for the link to your site Rob, your prices for Canon Ink are a good £1 cheaper per cartridge than Viking, where we usually buy our supplies.
