Hello,
I have a scenario which is anyone can give their 2 penny worth I would be grateful. We currently have several sites running off a server with 4 different users – predominantly 3 users are order processors and I carry out any work within the sites (V9 Business Plus User).
I am going on maternity leave in the next couple of weeks and so will not be around the office to be doing the relevant alterations; I plan on working from home over the next few months. For the basics, ie price changes etc, then one of the other users can do this or alternatively I can login remotely to do small jobs. The problem I’m up against is rural broadband! In the main office where the server etc is located we can typically get speeds of half a meg and this will be the same for me working from home. This makes prolonged remote access a nightmare to work with. I have chatted with our IT guys and the other options they mentioned were not feasible due to the broadband strength (or lack of!).
This has left me a little stumped – the only way I can think to work on more significant changes, is to take a snapshot of a site, make the relevant changes I need over a period of time at home (ie new sections, updated images and homepages etc) and then bring it back to the office and import the alterations onto the main site (if I remember rightly it ‘s possible to import but not override the orders etc that will have come in, in the meantime?). It’s not ideal and is going to be time consuming, however I guess a lot of designers must work in a similar way and then send the alterations to their client to “sync” the version of the sites. Can anyone see a better way, or a problem with working in this way? Am I right in thinking you cannot edit a specific area of a site and then simply import the updated content?
Any suggestions welcome, thanks
Lucy
