"Contact Form" Error returned from SMTP server (4: 5.7.1 : Sender address rejected

I am new to this so please be patient.

I am hoping someone can help. I am having a problem with my "contact form". When a user fills in the form and includes their email address, the following message appears after pressing Send.

Error returned from SMTP server (4: 5.7.1 : Sender address rejected: not owned by user sales@slatersigns.co.uk )

I have checked all my network settings and they seem to be ok.

This is all a bit strange as everything was working fine until about a month ago.

My form page is located at I am new to this so please be patient.

Have your email address in business settings and your mailbox settings in actinic all on domain and the same.

          Hi,

Yes, the email address is sales@slatersigns.co.uk.

Something i have noticed, if i fill in the email field of my contact form with sales@slatersigns.co.uk it works fine and sends me the enquiry to my Outlook. It's when another user's email address is entered that the foem fails and return the SMTP error.

          Thanks

I suggest you contact your hosts to see if they have some restrictions on mail scripts.

              Hi,

My host, Streamline.net, say they changed something on their SMTP server to reduce spam. The advice i have been given is to add a 5th parameter to my mail script, however, they couldn't give me any help with what this is or where it should be placed!!

              Any ideas??

Great support. The first thing I'd do is call them and see if someone else in support knows what they're talking about.

This just appears to be the form script failing as there's no sign of any problems with your other actinic mail. I assume you can send emails from the actinic desktop without any problems?

Which all seems a bit odd.

This is all a bit strange as everything was working fine until about a month ago.
Your error logs suggest the first occurence was 9th April so it's been going on for a bit longer than you think.

                see: http://www.slatersigns.co.uk/acatalog/error.err

Interestingly, it looks as if Actinic support tried on 9th May? Did anything come of that?

Streamline's support site isn't much help but there is an odd paragaraph there that might be related. I can't say I fully understand this but it might mean something to someone else.

•If you are sending e-mail to a customer who has given you their e-mail address, you need to use the domain name of their site (but it does not need to be a valid mailbox, for example noreply@their-domain.co.uk is a fairly common one to use). If you want the customer to reply to the e-mail you must use a valid account.
                ???

                Mike

                  Hi Mike,

Not getting much help from Streamline. Last piece of advice i have had is to change the SMTP port to 587. I did this in the ACTINIC.PM file then refreshed my site and it made no difference. I have changed it back to 25 now.

I can send emails to customers from Actinic Desktop, however, i have now noticed that i am not recieving any emailed order notifications to my Outlook. This must be related.

I have tested my network setting in Actinic and all looks ok, i even receive a test email from sales@slatersigns.co.uk in my Outlook.

I seem to have hit a wall!

The big problem is that Actinic sending out regular emails OK, so why isn't the mail form? I would assume that they use the same routine but maybe not.

Actinic support have looked at it and presumably said it's a hosting issue.

                        But your hosts won't help.

Which leaves us with the only sensible conclusion, to move hosts.

I love digging into these challenging problems but just don't have the time right now. I would move hosts.

                          Hi Mike,

Moving seems to be the only option, especially as i am sure now that the problem is with the host and not the software.

Thanks so much for your help.
