    Problem uploading website

    Hi All

    HELP!

I've been uploading the website to the host very successfully for a long time without problems, using dialup. However, I've just upgraded to broadband and am now having some difficulties. It gets as far as uploading the .cat files, send about 20 or so OK, then on one of them (it seems to be a different one each time) it bombs out and throws up an error message which says "The connection with the server was reset". Clicking on "OK" generates a window which says that an error occurred whilst trying to write to "acatalog" on the website, probably die to permissions problems, but possibly lack of disk space. One is offered a retry option, which always fails. A further error message suggests that the acatalog directory be checked manually before continuing.

I've looked at acatalog (I assume this means the one on the website) using an FTP package and can see nothing wrong (not sure quite what I should be looking for here) and there is approc 250MB of spare disk space - not a huge amount, but I would have thought sufficient.

The problem is clearly coincident with the move to broadband.

Help! I can't update my website....

You might find it's your router not allowing ftp connections back into the network. Try selecting 'use passive ftp' under network settings.

Not that it will be of much use but I also experienced the exact same issue when swapping to Broadband - lost all ability to upload for about a week - it then sorted itself and has worked ever since so I put it down to server issues. May be worth trying quieter times of the day to see if the servers are not being over-loaded.

I use FTP for lots of other stuff and that's all been just fine. I'll give it a try, however, too see if there's any improvement, and report back.

Well, I tried setting the FTP to passive, and it now seems more reliable. Not sure quite why, but I'm happy again!
