Pre-authorise transactions / charge immediately

We installed Catalog 6.01 in 2003 and updated to 6.14 in 2004. It's been running successfully since then, but now we're thinking of changing from collecting credit card payments immediately on order to pre-authorising and collecting the money when goods are shipped.
The payment gateway is Streamline (RBS).

Our question is, if we change from charging transaction immediately to pre-authorising, how are the payments collected? Can this be done through Actinic Catalog V6.14 or would we need to upgrade the software? If Catalog cannot do this, what method would the office admin have to use in order to collect the payments?

pre authorized payments

We have to pre authorize our payments.
It is a simple matter The orders come in and are marked as pre authorized then when we are ready to ship the order we log onto our merchant account and mark the order as shipped. The payment is then taken from the card at the date of shipping.

Thanks for the reply, glenman. We've been in touch with the Bank again and have now been told how to handle pre-authorised payments. Problem solved!
