    Searching Custom Properties

My online shop displays sheet music (http://www.justbrass.co.uk/onlineshop). To accommodate all the variations on a theme associated with such products I have set up a load of custom properties and amended the product templates to include these additional variables (composer, arranger, instrumentation etc).

It appears that searching on criteria which is only included in the custom properties doesn't work properly on my site. To explain further: If I search for 'Wilby', the results come back with 2 hits. If I then select 'Lowry Sketchbook' from this results list, the link works well and the 'Wilby' is successfully highlighted in this specific piece, but there is another piece by 'Wilby' on the same page which never appeared in the search results, and has no highlight on the search text. Surely this can't be right?

    Any ideas?

Are you using Business, as custom property based searches in only available in Business and not Catalog, which might be the problem.

    Just an idea.

The keyword search will search short and full descriptions. The search on custom property values that you set up in 'View | Search Settings | Searchable Properties' (this tab is only in Business) only searches the values you have entered in the 'Properties' tab.

Hope this helps clarify what you are looking for.

        hi

i have a bunch of items (underwear) that have several sizes.
Each item has more than one of 66 possible sizes.
ie. it can have up to 66 different sizes!
I want to do a size-specific search ...so i gather my options are these:-

1 Create one CUSTOM PROPERTY called Size......then create a product for each size of each item (this would potentially mean a possible 66 x no. of items)

2 Create CUSTOM PROPERTIES for each size (ie. up to 66 custom properties) and then select these for each item and set their Values to TRUE or FALSE.

        Am I right??

if I am then this will probably stop me using this size-specific search as it's loads of work!!!!

        Thanks!

          hang on

in my tradition of answering my own questions.....

if i go into 'View | Search Settings | Searchable Properties' then i see all my sizes in the properties pull down!!!! (JOY!!!)

therefore i can add these specific sizes to my regular search cant I!?!?!

          nice one ;-)
