Not sure that you would be able to install AWSTATS yourself as probably requires server permission you don't have access to.
The Sawmill analyser Bill mentions goes one step further than AWSTATS (I use both) and is well worth checking out - they have a trial download available
I have a managed server with 1&1 which provides MySQL.
If I remember correctly the terms of use for using the MySQL database (which Awstats requires) is that you do not use them to capture and analyse usage statistics.
No - their stats package comes as part of the package - I just think that they are concerned with their SQL servers being bashed. The SQL databases are hosted on a different server to your own managed server.
Regarding AwStats I am aware that Claranet have just introduced this as their standard statistics pacakage included in all offerings. Lets hope others folow suit.
Yep - on CLARA and was upgraded a couple of weeks back ... although it does hammer the site space allowance (similar thread open at the moment) due to the size of the log files they are currently churning out
