    AOL Email errors anyone?

    Hi,

I was just reading thru some older posts after searching for 'localhost' issues but can't find an answer to this one?

Recently, my sites were ALL down but the guys at Nicnmaes said evrything was fine, Actinic would not upload or download orders at all. They looked into it and as if by magic, it was sorted.

But . . ever since then (late last week) evry time I try and send an email via Actinic to an AOL address I get this error message:

The original message was received at Wed, 26 Oct 2005 20:54:05 +0100
    from localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
    <xxxxxxxx@aol.com>
(reason: 550 5.0.0 <xxxxxxxx@aol.com>... This address has been blocked due to spamming)

----- Transcript of session follows -----
    ... while talking to [10.1.1.200]:
    >>> DATA
<<< 550 5.0.0 <xxxxxxxx@aol.com>... This address has been blocked due to spamming
    550 5.1.1 <xxxxxxxx@aol.com>... User unknown
    <<< 503 5.0.0 Need RCPT (recipient)

    ----------------------------------------

Now where the xxxxxx@aol.com is I've removed the email but I know for sure that it's an error from the site sending emails because, I tested it with a new account having already used my brother's email address (an AOL one) via Outlook Xpress and it worked fine. Sent it from Actinic and got the above error message?

I have all my stores set to 'localhost' having been given this advice a couple of years back here on the board and no probs until now.

If I want to change it, what should the info in 'localhost' be, I can't flippin' remember!?

    Cheers everyone..

PS: And I have hit the Network Test Button and received an email saying it is all fine? Oh yeah, I am getting emails in Outlook from 2 customers now with AOL addresses who can't log in as they have no email telling them what to do!

    Any ideas?

I don't know if anyone has any ideas of why this is happening, but today, 2 more folks with @aol.com email suffix' have bounced back from Actinic sending receipts.

This is going to be a nightmare for people who don't check the end page 'receipt' for digital downloads as they won't get an email generated for their secure download.

    Bum!

Any ideas?? Just spent a fortune on advertising too so I need to get this sorted ASAP!!

    Thanks everyone.

      Hi,

Instead of using localhost you will have to use the smtp server settings provided by your hosting company. If the server requires authentication then you will need to enter a username and password too.

There were reports of AOL blocking port 25 on SMTP servers and Actinic uses port 25 to send mail. I am checking to see if this will affect you. Are you hosted on an AOL server?

      Kind regards,

I have a non Actinic client who dials up using AOL to a basic brochure site and she experiences problems (sending emails via Outlook) with what appears to be AOL limiting the number of SMTP emails that are allowed - no doubt to prevent spamming... probably all as a result of the AOL employee who stole all the members email addresses and sold on !

          Just for your information

Another interesting thing that has come to light is that AOL is moving all its SMTP traffic to port 587 since it has started blocking port 25.

I dont know if this will be of any help but you could try changing '$nSmtpPort = 25;' in Actinic.pm to the above port number and see if it still falls over on AOL addresses.

          Kind regards,

Thanks Bruce. I don't use AOL but if I edit the port 25 to 587, will it effect any other sending of emails not with AOL addresses? Everyone elses works it seems.

Thanks very much for the replies.

There seems to be a further issue now! Can anyone tell me while the files won't 'merge' on the website? Is it possible the folks at Nicnames could have re-set my CGI permissions?

Whenever I try to log-in now nothing happens, just get this error:

              Server error!
The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.
              Error message:

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster

              ---------------------------

Typical isn't it, everything is fine for ages and then everything goes wrong at once!!

I have tried to do a full site refresh but the last part of the 'Merging Files on Sever' just sits there and then bombs? This is so frustrating!

              Any help much appreciated.

              Cheers

Yes, and I have tried all the suggestions. I have attempted a complete refresh but it freezes at the end and then says, 'An error occured while sending the Merge Request'. I have checked the 755 permissions in the CGI-Bin and they seem OK, I have even changed all .fil files to 777 in the catalog folder, still I can't log in, you can't buy anything now and I can upload the site??

I really would appreciate some help now, I am desperate. I can't see (by looking at my site via FTP) where the problem lies. The only thing I changed was the suggestion earlier about Port 25 and the AOL issue in the ACTINIC.pl file. I put it back to port 25 and I've checked it's OK and it looks fine to me.

I even 'Generated Scripts' and then manually uploaded but I've still got the, 'An error occured while sending the Merge Request' issue and a 500 error on my website pages!?

                  Help! Please.

                  Cheers

OK, well I know it's Halloween weekend and all but do you want to see something really weird? I knew I'd had this 500 perl issue error b4 last year and I lost my mind trying to sort it then. I just checked back over the messages and it was exactly the same time as last year . . . does this mean it has something to do with this time of year? Do IOMART do something on their servers that screws with me on Halloween weekend?

Check the post here to see what I mean:

                    http://community.actinic.com/showthr...8860#post18860

And BTW, I have tried to do ANOTHER total Site Refresh but it simply won't have it. I am about to tear out all my hair again. I am so fed up now! The site simply does not work at all and I could have lost a ot potential of business this weekend because my ad in the magazine was on the shelves Saturday morning.

                    Would really appreciate some help

                      Hi Brian,

http://community.actinic.com/showpos...3&postcount=26 Have you checked to see if it is the same issue? I have mailed you network settings for a test directory I have created on my support server. Do let us know if the merge happens on this space.

                      Kind regards,

Thanks Bruce, I'm now really stumped. I have just tried to do a site refresh to the settings you emailed me and I get the same message:

An error occurred while sending the merge request'

So how can this be, is it something to do with a bad file I have? Crazy thing is, I don't know how this could have happened?

                        Cheers

Hi Bruce, the site is only 63MB complete. Zoltan advised me to move all the .fil files from the server AND from within my directory incase of a datestamp issue. I'm trying to upload again now but all I get is a timeout error?

OK, I'm losing patience now.. I have removed all the .fil files from the server and from within the directory on my PC and uploaded, as soon as we get to Merging incrememntal updates at the website.... nothing happens.

I think I've surely tried everything now!
