Nope not using them, I'm an ISP in my own right I have my own Linux and Windows servers, I have other Actinic cutomers using these servers and I haven't had any problems reported so far.

Just this new site.

Hi,

Our development team have found an error in the original script (ie not the amendment that we have given in this thread). Can you open your Actinic.pm file in a text editor such as notepad and search for:

unless (print MYSOCKET "RCPT TO:<",$sEmailAddress,">\r\n")

change this to:

unless (print MYSOCKET "RCPT TO:<" . $sEmailAddress . ">\r\n")

Save and close the file and update your site. Please test this out to see if it is causing the problem for you.

Thanks for trying, but theres still a problem

It does exactly the same thing, I even did a site refresh, that takes ages to make sure it was uploaded.

Its the same error and the mail get sent to the right place still.

I wonder if the file changes at all when its uploaded, how can we tell?

You can find it in c:\program files\actinic v7\original (take a back up of the one you have amended first in case we need to put those changes back in again).

I/We have 1 other site using actinic, I'm not sure of the version but as the ISP there has been no complaints.

all have thier own virtual smtp/pop mail server mail.domainname.....

No I haven't tried using localhost as the SMTP server. I may try that, but it seems a forlone hope.

We have a number of sites using SMTP form mailers (not actinic sites) on the servers without problem. Usually when a mailer completes a successful send it simply displays a 'Thank You' page or returns the user to a defined webpage.

As the mailing is successfull, it appears that the script is detecting an error of some discription which it probably doesn't need to report when kicking off the thank you process.

I and probably any other user doesnt care that theres a error 4 - client error, as long as the mail is sent.

If I was a script expert I'd look myself, but I can't... All I need is it to say 'Thank You' for contacting us, why can't it do that? - dispondant

Thanks for your help on this - Actinic has a been a real struggle - not the best experience in the world, but this is the sort of thing that is putting the nail in the coffin lid.

I want an e-commerce cart for my own site - Actinic is not high on my shopping list at the moment.

Hi Jerry,

I'm sorry that you are having problems with the software, however, Actinic has no mailing capabilities of it's own. It merely sends a text message to port 25 on the SMTP server that is specified in the 'Advanced | Network Setup' window and expects the SMTP server to take it from there. Do other emails get sent ie customer confirmation emails?

The errors displayed are coming from your SMTP server. The error you have posted here 'Error returned from SMTP Server (4: in your email client)' does not give an actual SMTP error code (usually 3 digits) so it is difficult to know exactly what the problem is.

Looking at your error log there are other SMTP errors showing:

Date and Time = 2005/12/24 16:55, Internal Errors = Error returned from SMTP server (1: 535 Incorrect authentication data

I have searched the internet and every instance of this that I can find is to do with authentication failure. I'm afraid that I can't find anything on the first error.

Is there any chance we can get a copy of the network settings for this site to see what you have set? You can send them to Bruce as per his previous comment to this thread.

Hi,

Our developers have taken a look at the Actinic error.err file and feel that the SMTP server is returning non standard error messages. They have modified the Actinic.pm file for you so that it will give a more clearer error message so we can try to understand what is going on. Please back up your current Actinic.pm file and replace it with the one attached (extract if from the zip file) and then upload the site. Please let me know when you have done this so we can test it out.

I put in the module and did a site refresh, def got back more info - thanks.

I have sent a copy to my techis support people at the data centre to see if they can shed any light on the problem.. will let you know what it turns up.

Hi back again

Blinkin heck, you cant leave anything lying about - a few days and my post dissappears down to page 9.. Anyway

The techie guys that run the data centre have re-installed exim in the linux boxes and are scratching their heads

So I'm back here - wondering what to do next. Anu ideas please..

I wonder if the Actinic devs could take out the error trapping, just make it a success, the thank you page would come up, the owner would get her mail and no one would be none the wiser.. What do you think?

Hi,

Our development team have taken a look at the error that is being displayed:

Error returned from SMTP server (4: 550,(www.cutesdelights.com)
[207.58.140.120] is currently not permitted to
550,relay through this server.

It means, the domain name of the sender is not the same as the SMTP server
or the merchant's server is not in the same network as the SMTP server. This is why it says it must be logged in using SMTP Authentication, to permit the relay.

I'm waiting for a response from the development team to see if we can remove the error reporting, however, if another problem arises then you may never know about it so it is not really advisable.
