    picking from a colour chart

Please forgive me if there is already a thread addressing this need - I've done my best to find it.

I have products which come in a large number of sizes and colours (let's consider a solution for a 20 x 20 matrix of options). Sizes are a self-describing attribute, but colours have fancy names so I need to display a colour chart. I can do that by inserting the HTML within !!< >!! in the usual way, but this would required the buyer to correlate the colour name in the table with its name in the dropdown permutations list. It would be slicker and more usable to allow the user to click within the appropriate cell in the colour chart.

There is a neat trick (by Norman Rouxel) in the 'Can I display a table of information within the product description?' thread, which arranges radio buttons in the cells of a small table, but the idea of expanding on it to do what I want is giving me a sore head. Each cell would need a colour swatch as a background image, I guess. Has anyone tried addressing a similar requirement?

Thanks, Jan. Just noticed I sort of inverted Norman's surname. Can one develop dyslexia with age?

I like the Normap image picker idea. I could use that for the colour swatches. The wholesaler's picking matrix could be useful, too.

At the moment, I'm in 30-day evaluation mode for Catalog on behalf of a client, but I'm impressed. Product and support are excellent, but this forum and its contributors are what really convince me.

more likely to be tiredness than age I think :-)

I think that particular plugin is fantastic, post a URL so that we can look at your interpretation of it.

I've also done a colour picker on a picture framing site. See e.g. http://www.fastframes.co.uk/acatalog...ad__40_43.html where just about everything on the page does something when you click on it.

Nice one, Norman. A particularly apt subject for such treatment. Modifying the image to reflect the buyer's choice must help many of them to make up their minds and close the sale.

The colour picker also sets the background for the displayed frame so you can even see what it'll look like on your wall.
