I am on 1 & 1 Linux Business, and the differences I see are

SMTPHOSt auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk (User and password requ'd is NOT ticked)
WEBSITEURL http://www.hair-accessories.co.uk/ (no reference to the index page)
PATHTOPERL /usr/bin/perl/ (trailing slash after perl and no -w)
    FTPHOST ftp.hair-accessories.co.uk (ftp not www)
    FTPPATHFROMCGITOCATALOG - blank (empty) -

    everything else looks correct

OK - just very occassionally there is a problem which can be resolved by asking 1 & 1 to remove all your permissions on the cgi-bin and then reinstate them (they should be familiar with the process and it does not take long - at least not once they have answered the phone - may be quicker and cheaper to email support@1and1.co.uk )

Its a dedicated server so I have tried that myself. Still the same problem. Convinced it is something to do with permissions but I might be barking up the wrong tree.

On a dedicated server, I would recommend that you register a support query at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/index.htm - they will be able to examine your server in detail and hopefully track down the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've posted a query with them but if anyone can come up with any suggestions before I get a reply I would be grateful

                Many thanks

                  Sally,

Did you try Bills suggestion of changing the SMTP

                  from SMTPHOST auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk

                  to SMTPHOST auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk

Please try this , click on 'Apply' to make the changes and then test teh settings.

                  Kind regards,

I've tried changing the smtp host to oneandone but this hasn't made any difference.

If I put the script that fails into my httpdocs/pages folder it works ok

                      http://www.hair-accessories.co.uk/pages/cp000002.pl

and gives the result - 20000110

Does this give any clue to anybody

                        Sally

I really do suggest you take Bill's advice of contacting Actinic. They can test your settings and find out what's wrong.

                          Hi all,

thanks for all the advice, 1and1 sorted the problem out for me, something to do with permissions, users and cgi-bin.

Hopefully with have the site up by the end of the week. I'm sure I'll be back with other issues as the weeks progress.
