ssl test is failing

When i do the SSL TEST I get the following message and i have no idea what to do.Please tell me the things i need to check one by one.

''The test script failed to execute on the web server. The error could be caused by several things. Check the path to the Perl shell, the CGI script extension, the path to CGI-BIN, and the CGI-BIN URL. This error could also occur if your web site is out of disk space or your web server is not configured to accept POSTs to CGI scripts.''

Also when i visit the check out page ,the page is not displayed.Please help.I am in a panic now

do you have an SSL certificate installed at your domain? Why are you doing a SSL test?

Try doing a network settings test without SSL and see if you get the same error message.

Post the network settings you are using, (without passwords etc)

tell us who your host is and what package you have bought from them

when i do the netwok setting it says the following
''You do not have write permissions to the cgi-bin directory "/public_html/cgi-bin/" or it does not exist.''

i use rentacart e commerce solutions and i use their only service (see http://www.rentacart.co.uk/index.htm )

Have I understood thiscorrectly, you have webspace from rentacart but you are using this space to upload an actinic catalog site?

Whilst rentacart doesn't say you can only use the webspace for their own cart you will need to check your webspace allows you to upload Actinic ie you must have your own cgi-bin, thus check you actually have a cgi bin within your space. If the cgi stuff checks out correctly

Looking at thier website they use a competitors ecommerce software - there is no mention of Actinic.

They also say that the shopping software is already setup for you so I dont understand why you are trying to use Actinic with this webspace. To use Actinic you should be using a host that supports Actinic eg pinbrook.

ITs because i paid for their hosting before i purchased Actinic so I thought I would rather use the money I had paid till it runs out.

I would cut my loss and sign up with an Actinic specific host who can help with any problems like this. Cheap/free/unsuitable hosting is always a bad move.

Your question should be what is the most reliable host not the cheapest - hosting is the engine of your website. You are going to spend a significant ammount of money and time building your site and doing hosting on the cheap can lead to problems.

Cheapest is not that relevant, if cost is your issue, buy Actiinic Express.

Cheapest often does not turn out to be cheapest in the long run. It certainly isn't cheap when the standard of the hosting has a direct impact on the number of sales your site makes/looses

Cheap can mean you waste hours/days/weeks of your own time trying to set up on a host that simply does not support it.

It can also mean you waste time trying to get your host to support it when they don't know anything about it.

It can also mean your site is hosted on an over populated server and thus your site runs slowly, which in turn means your shoppers go elsewhere because they don't want to wait for a slow site

It can also mean you don't get the appropriate server process time for actinic scripts

It can also mean your bandwidth gets throttled, which also means shoppers leave your site.

It is possible to get an actinic site running quite satisfactory on a cheap host, but this also requires you to have some knowledge in chosing th correct host where it will work, and being able to set it up.

YES THEY SAID I HAVE THE cgi in my root folder
am strugling to copy the network configurations because if i export and save the file,once i try to upload it in the forum it says the fomat is not allowed

Once you've saved the network settings as a text file then open the file and copy and paste the settings into the forum. Make sure to overwrite the username and password settings.

As far as hosting goes there are two main routes you can choose from. An actinic specialist such as pinbrook, 4sure, etc or a reliable mainstream service such as 1and1. You'll get less support from 1and1 but the forum members who use them will often help with getting things going.

Think about what you want from a host and compare prices, specs, service, etc. Then choose the one that suits you best.
