Changed my site to use Actinic........

    Greetings,

I used to run my website at http://www.oilboilersdirect.com using a competitors package (shouldn't mention their name here but it rhymes with Beryl (sort of)). I've recently launched my new Actinic built site but if I search in Google by doing a 'site:http://www.oilboilersdirect.com' it still finds all my old pages in its' cache. Now that these pages are all dead I obviously get 404 errors if i click the links Should I recreate these old references on my new site and point them to my new home page or is there an easier way. P.S. any comments on the site so far?

Hi was your old site .com? if not you can set up a domain forwarder on your domain account for that domain... ir forward .co.uk to .com, that way any pages cached and searched will be forwarded, hope this makes sense...

Thanks for the quick response Yes the domain name was the same. It's not actually a big issue, it's just that for SEO purposes i don't want any potentially dead links stuck in Google's system while I wait for to finish 'boting my new site.

I'd just check for a 404 error doc, and point this to your index page or acatalog/index

this way you will keep visitors on your site.

or the longer methos is to create a 301 permanamet redirect from old page name to new page name.

Search the community fo rkeywords such as "redirect" "404" "htaccess"
