    merge error

    hi,

I have reinstalled actinic onto my laptop and imported the snapshot and restored the database from a back-up. Everything looks ok, the site is the same as before and all previous orders are there etc. However, when I update/refresh the website I get an "error during file merge request" message.
I have spent 8 hours so far trying different suggestions from the forums but nothing seems to work. My site only works on the homepage but not on anything else.
Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Go to Advanced / Network Setup and run the Test that's there.

    Report the results.

If you get errors then it will help to also Export your settings (again Advanced / Network Setup) and paste them here (delete any passwords first).

You only need to import a sanpshot - perhaps bringing in the database has caused a problem.

There are lots of posts on this suject - the error you are getting is VERY common when transfering a snapshot to a new PC. Close actinic, re-open and select the home page icon then refresh the website.

        hi,

I have run the tests and they all pass. The only thing it says is that if uploading for the first time to use a different cgi script number which I have tried but it didn't help.
I've also tried xelecting the home icon and uploading but still no change.

I have tried refresh also but still the same. If I run wizard from the network set up it says my cgi-bin is /cgi-bin when it should be /cgi-bin/
how do I change it? I also get a connection wizard error with a big red cross but it doesn't tell me anything.

              hi,

when I run tests everything is ok. when I run connection wizard everything is ok. no errors and blue ticks for everything but I am still getting an error at the end of an upload or refresh relating to merge request.
I don't know what else to do. My site has been down for 2 days now.

Purge the site and compact databases, then refresh?

                      merging problems

Hi, this is another post and I have just been reading the posts by Aliscot, and the problem she is having is just the same as I am. I'm trying to upload my catalog to a new server, all appears well untill I get to file merge and then tells me there is an error. Now what? What do I do now?

If Aloscot gets an answer, I would like to try it in my shop. Mine has been down for 4 days now!!! and hours spent trying to get it fixed!

I dont think it is - hers I think is a database problem.

Your other post suggests that you cannot get the website to connect to the server. This post suggests that your settings are correct ut a merge failure - this is common. Try compacting the database and then do a refresh.

                          Hi Aliscot,

Pleasehave a look at my thread concerning uploading V7 as I think you are having the exact same problem as I had had for the last 4 days.
Spoke to a customer support officer at Fasthosts and he found the problem quite quickly but my whole catalog plus web site had to be sent to a third party to be debugged before upload could take place. Fasthosts servers struggle witht he script hance introducing a third party. It took 20 minutes to fix and test and orders are now coming through.

                          Cheers,

                          David

hello again, thanks for the help so far.

I tried uninstalling actinic and deleting completely from my pc. I then reinstalled actinic, imported my network settings and tried to upload the basic actinic site with my network settings. I got the same error messoge regarding the merge request.

I sent a message to my hosts, uk2 and they are asking which files I am trying to merge and into which folders. What should I tell them as I'm not sure.

                            thanks again

                            Alison

                              Hi Alison,

You are doing exactly as I did and with the same result. Your server uk2 do in fact receive all your files/folders of your web site/acatalog and have them sitting there in a sub folder waiting for them to upload even theough the Catalog default messages tell you otherwise. When your server uk2 do upload, the upload fails and hence you see your error messages. As what happened with me, it is most likely that uk2 will have to send all your files to another server for script/debugging/scrambling so that the uk2 server can read it ready for posting. Fasthosts did that for me and my site was uploaded, checked, tested, all in about 12 minutes.
The support guru at Fasthosts was a very fast talker and I missed the exact name of the abbreviated server but he mummbled something like APS.
Without the forwarding of your files or spending money on Actinic support, I don't think you will ever upload your files yourself.
This was my experience over the last 4 days, but cured by someone at Fasthosts (who knew how Actinic worked) in about 12 minutes.
I hope this helps and phone up uk2 and tell them of my experience it might jog someones *data* base.

                              Cheers,
                              David.
