    Another General Script Error Issue

    Hiya all

I have another general script error issue and am looking to bounce a few ideas round.

Our site at www.wonderlandparty.co.uk has been built from the ground up in house and is working fine for the majority of people visiting the site, however my Boss went to the site last night and got the

    A General Script Error Occurred

Error: Your shopping cart has expired, orders must be completed within 3 hours or they will be automatically cancelled.

Having put test orders through on 6 machines, and on 3 different browsers I cannot recreate this error.

Reading back through the forum I can see that changing the script number may help, but I don't think this is the issue to be honest, plus that would involve changing all of the template pages across the site and doing a full site upload again.

The second thing I found was to do with session files. I can purge the session files, but will this remove the issue on the 1 machine it appears on, or will it pop up again in the future, also, is purging the session files once or twice a week a good housekeeping practice?

Any thoughts you guys and gals have regarding this would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jason

A forum search using "Your shopping cart has expired" will bring up other threads discussing the same issue, whilst you say you have done a forum search it would be useful to know what you found out and what you threw out. Otherwise the initial replies you get will simply offer the same suggestions again

Sounds like you have your expiry period for the shopping cart set at 3 hours. Go to web | Configure expiry details and try changing it

The setting there is the default for Actinic and hasn't been changed on any of our sites so I am not sure how it can be relevant for this one. The previous site design had the same setting with no issues.

The main query relating to this issue is from a post I made myself some time ago which relates to the static links not transferring into the shared SSL properly, however that has bee fixed. The majority of the other issues relate to other script problems, not related to Cart Timeout. From the other posts that do discuss this and other things there are suggestions to clear the session files, which I have now done, and the other is to change the script number and re-upload the site, but as this would involve changing every static link on every layout page (apx 40 of them) it adds in a further degree of a chance to screw up the site. The details for the site came from the setup of the previous site and it has been installed into a new folder on the server, so I know the settings are correct apart from this niggling intermittent issue.

you should be able to create hard coded links without having to use static links via the cgi-bin - I assume this is what you mean.

Can you give me an example of a static link you don't want to re-code?

It was just an idea - but if it not relevant then dont bother

I would check that your boss has the correct time zone and date set on his PC.
