Gavin never worry about google indexing these pages, the older post seem to disapper into the google ether. Well IMO that is. what was current today soon disappears from google, well unless you keep scrolling through 100's of pages of results anyway.

Remember google only sticks it at the top if its relevant for what someone is looking for, technically you site should always come up above this forum as i said this is just MO

if you dont want links then dont ask for a review - people need to reference pages on your site and if you insist on them making the extra effort to hide the links then I for one would not bother to reply as Im very busy and on the forum you take what you get - if you need a hidden review then pay for it.

I think you are being a little unfair Mal, if he titles it 'Communist Website Review', it will be fine.

Lighten up Gav, you sound like Stereo Steve did 18 months ago.

Yep - hes only just put a link in his url - how many times have we told him to do that. Maybe Gav and Steve are brothers

Seriously, if this was going to cause as much stink as it has, i wouldnt of posted the link to begin with.

There are reasons as to why i didnt want the URL posted, i didnt just mention it for fun lol.

Anyway, the purpose of this post was for comments about the site, now - as to if i should or should not post the link and implications behind it.

            Who is Stereo Steve??

            Cheers

Gav, you seem to have overlooked the fact that you are asking people not to post links to your site, but you have a link in your signature. This is why we are are so bemused

I see that Google is indexing pages such as:
                http ://www.d tchw st.co.uk/accessories/ipf335.html

What are these pages? They don't have a link back to the site.

I think it's Gavin's terminology that's causing the confusion. He keeps saying he doesn't want the URL of the website published (which we take to mean the link), whereas I think what he doesn't want is the NAME of the website published. So that anyone searching for the name on google will find his website rather than the forum.

It's all got very complicated. Gavin has admitted to thinking that URLs in signatures didn't get read by Google, but they do. This is the whole problem in a nutshell. Gavin doesn't want links to his site in the forum, but he has had a link to his site in his signature all along.

Let me tell you where I am - I'm out. (my new favourite program)

This is actually an accessory page which is embedded into the ACT_PRODUCTLINE.html template page.

All I meant was this ...

I didnt want people to post the complete url of the site or pages in posts.
but if someone was relating to a specific page on the site then to do something like what duncan has done above.

                          ie. www.****.co.uk/acatalog/sa260.html

                          thats it.

Just honestly did not realise it would cause such a stink

In the past the MD would search on google and find links to the company website on forums, and not be happy about it. I know and understand of course that this is the nature of the google and it cannot be stopped, but try explaining that to someone who is not techhy minded AND is your boss - it aint easy!

I love it when they get asked for their year 1/2/3 projections and their response is "Gulp!......eenie meenie minie mo..." - they need a trapdoor with a button the 5 dragons hit to encourage a sharp exit!

                                now here's an idea....

the presenter stands on a trop door and as each dragon says I'm out the trap door opens a bit.... but if someone projects the value of their business in the milllions and all dragons laugh, they can all hit the button and the presenter drops at great speed
