The thing is, the only problem is that the background colour is not being displayed locally - and this is pure html in a template - and the template is obviously in the preview folder in order for me to preview the site in the first place.
What I have discovered by playing around - it seems to be related to the palette colour option. When I change this, the background colour changes too, but then so do some of the buttons and effects which make it un-useable.
