Whole website on SSL but still use a 3rd party PSP? - Actinic V4

I know Actinic V4 is absolutely ancient, but I have my reasons for this question, so please don't state the obvious!

Has anyone ever had the above scenario where their whole V4 website is on SSL but they still use a third party such as WorldPay for Card processing? Anyone from memory..?!

If you select 'SSL' in the payment tab, network settings all change to https and everything works a treat - that is everything except the PSP, because Actinic now expects you to process the card details yourself, having selected SSL.

If I dont tick SSL in the payment tab and have 'Online credit card processing' ticked instead, the network settings will then not accept 'https' for the cgi-bin and defaults to http.

Is there any way I can force the network settings to accept https for the cgi-bin? Or would this cause a problem connecting with my 3rd party PSP, i.e. WorldPay?

It all sounds a bit odd because this thread http://community.sellerdeck.com/showthread.php?t=32077 says that in V4 the whole site has to be https, not just the catalog.

What happens if you do this as described and use https for the website url but leave the cgi-bin settings as http. Does the website, including cgi-bin run on https?

Hi Mike, yes I read that thread and was happy to hear that it could be done (but maybe without third party psp).

If I use https for website and catalogue as suggested and leave cgi-bin as http:, when entering the cart, it drops back to http unfortunately... Is this because the base href is http for the cart pages?

If I force all pages to be https with the .htaccess file, I then get other issues, as if I have navigated straight to the cart without coming from an associated page. Either that or a general script error, it does not like it..!

I assume this is version 4.1 or later?

The release notes for 4.1 mention various SSL improvements as the releases progress but there aren't many details.

Unfortunately I have no other documentation and I'm running out of ideas on this.

I can't remember when the built in help was introduced into actinic. The last thing I can think of is to maybe check if there is any advice on ssl in there. Although i suspect you've probably looked already.

The windows Help Format that was used is no longer available apparantly! The links to the old help guides I have found also no longer work it seems! Even back in the year 2000 you would have thought that people used whole site SSL with a 3rd party psp though, so I won't give up just yet..!

Could I possibly keep SSL selected and then hardcode the link somewhere to the WorldPay OCC template?

***UPDATE!***
I managed to get the whole site SSL working and still with a third party PSP by, in the end forcing https on the cgi-bin. I did this by accessing the mdb and simply entering the https url directly into there. (I haven't specified SSL anywhere other than in the network settings urls).

The site works perfectly, quickly and WorldPay has no problems with it! Not bad for a 20-year-old set-up! Yes, I'm still using V4 very successfully to anyone out there wondering!

The only problem is that if I click into network settings, the cgi-bin defaults back to http, which is a little frustrating!

If anyone knows how to remove this override I would be sincerely grateful...

Meanwhile I have a ~20 year old site that soldiers on another day, and often puts my V14 sites to shame!
