I have just installed a new full version of 6.1.4 on a clients machine and copied the site1 folder over from the developers pc.

It uploads fine but when I do a site refresh the application hangs and occasionally comes back to life.

Is this a common problem as I see a few people above have the same problem. I wonder if it is not more widespread that this thread reports as not everybody does site refreshes on a regular basis.

Please will Actinic support team look at this as it is a very serious (and embarrassing problem for your developers).

    Many thanks

We need to test your servers to see if we can replicate the error. Please register an email support request at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm and the team will be able to try out your store on your server and see what is causing the error.

If it is a problem with the software we will act on it, but none of our testers have so far been able to recreate it.

you are welcome to try my servers as well if you like. I am meant to be going live at the beginning of April but at this rate I will not be able to upload the site.

I have logged support calls with XCalibre as well and there is nothing on their servers that they feel would cause these failures.

I have logged several support calls but still it has not been resolved.

I have managed to sort my problem with a little help from XCalibre. I had the same problem using CuteFTP to upload my website which suggested that it wasnt Actinic. Turned out to be my router (Netgear DG834G). I believe the problem also exists with 3COM routers. To prove it I set up a DMZ server to my computers IP address temporarily. This worked. I quickly took it back off again but found documentation which told me to change the MTU size from the default 1458 to 1500. Works a treat now. Sometimes still a wee bit slow but only for a few seconds. Never had an upload fail since.

I hope this helps some of you.

            Best regards

Just for confirmation really. I am a new 6.1.4 user and have been doing uploads (using passive FTP) successfully for the past couple of weeks.

              So something works(sometimes)!

Just need to get the site working now.

Is that uploads or 'Refresh Website'?

This is where the problem is...

                  Alex,

Both work for me - I did have problems when not using Passive FTP.

And - I have always had merge failure problems when trying to upload after applying Norman's SENDMAIL patch (and I checked it VERY carefully) - I have just found another last year thread about upload problems and it suggests problems with DIFF files and md00001.pl failures - very reminiscent of the various problems I saw with my SENDMAIL patch.

But again, to confirm, with standard PERL scripts (ie unmodified) I have no FTP problems at all.

Do you have modified scripts? Are you using 6.1.4 as well?

                  Steve

                    upload problem v6.1.3

I have regularly been having an uploading problem over the last couple of weeks, I've noticed a couple of threads regarding this but I'm not sure it has been answered. Version 6.1.3 (will be updating to 6.1.4 soon, seemed to be a couple of problems with it, are they sorted out yet?), win98se, connection bt isdn, hosts claranet. Same criteria that have been mentioned already. The upload freezes on a file, not the same one every time, and says there is a server timeout, when the online connection is still active. Workaround is to disconnect, reconnect then the upload carries on and usually finishes, after warning that the settings may be incorrect, etc. I don't think its a Clara problem as I have no problems ftping, etc. This completely kills (when unttaended)the Mole End automated uploading when it happens.

We have identified a possible problem in how Actinic uploads, which has been present since v4. It is all to do with how Actinic continues the upload when the connection is reset for whatever reason. Actinic takes a long time to time out and re-try with certain sorts of internet connections.

We are going to change this in the next maintenance release of v6 - which will come out after the next major release is completed.

I think I've had Actinic online for a couple of years now and its only just started happening. Maybe there's a `weak link`in some of our uploading combinations? ie is there a common denominator? Clara maybe, I know they have been playing around with servers and merging, etc lately.

It's possible that the flurry of problems is causesd by something that Microsoft have changed. Actinic uses Microsoft DLLs to perform the upload. Having said that, it seems to only impact a minority of users and is actually quite hard to reproduce.

We have a team that sits between development and support that investigates this type of problem and where necessary changes the code. They're investigating this as their top priority at the moment.

If your team need any info from us `sufferers` I'm sure most of us would provide any information you need that would help to solve this issue.

Well done on being on top of it though, and for letting us know its high priority.

                              6.1.4 Hangs on Upload

It seems I am not alone. (this seems to be a big problem going back to V5)

Actinic hangs when trying to refresh my website. It has happened a few times
The first time I simply deleted all ACATALOG files on my server and the refreshed and that seemed to work.

I have just added quite a few new products and experienced the "hanging" feeling again. Have tried the deletion trick again but no luck.

I tried to change the CGI to 2 and selected test - Actinic HANGS almost immediately..

You should try the 6.1.5 Beta Testing Programme, which has the new FTP upload functionality.
