Okay, that's a much clearer message - I'm on the techie side and do not understand any of the compliance stuff. I have just read the PCI article you linked to (WebD) and so I have a question:

If I ignore it all and carry on with my Actinic shop website and PayPal Pro as my PSP, will anything bad happen in January?

My shop is not even an SSL site, though I aim to fix that this year.

If you are deemed to have caused someone's card details to be compromised because of your lack of PCI compliance, then you can be fined £25,000 for *each* card. Scary enough for you?

If your site is found out to be non PCI-DSS compliant then you may be in for a very hefty fine.

Thanks for the warning. So that's the parameter that I am working within.

I think, with my small shop, that that likelihood is negligible, so I will relax. I'll still sort out the SSL, but I'm not going to worry too much.

Incidentally, is there a 'preferred' PSP for Actinic users? I went with PayPal as it was simple to set up, low cost (£20/month) and has a fairly straight-forward user-interface.

I'm open to considering others, that are PCI compliant.

Okay, seems like that was an obvious question, so thanks for posting the obvious answer.

Clearly (and especially judging by some earlier responses), I'm a bit behind the pack on this subject.

I will investigate Actinic Payments.

It's a good system, intergrates very well into V9 and future releases. Only one point of contact needed from a support perspective and they have different price bands depending on your through put.

I've used several PSP with Actinic, and with all of them it's a PITA flipping between the two systems. With Actinic Payments it integrates very nicely into the main software.

If you use a compliant PSP, you won't need to use SSL to be compliant, so you might want to concentrate on the PSP issue rather than SSL. See also:
