        Hi Pete

        What it basically boils down to is this:-

        Get your web host to enable

        Crypt::SSLEay
        Net::SSLEay
        Net:SSL

        Run the most recent version of the 'SiteExplorer.pl' file that has been posted on this thread and this will tell you whether these modules are installed and running (if they are you'll get a version number by them instead of 'Not Installed')

        Once that's done, you should be good to go

          The issues is not yet fully resolved. It appears that a particular version of some scripts will now work and getting your host to install or update these scripts resolves the problem for some.

          The Actinic version of these scripts however is not yet updated, Actinic first need to understand what's changed to be able to update their script.

          The Actinic script is required so as to be independent of particular hosting requirements.

            We are getting closer with the first part. PayPal have confirmed that they have made changes in late September to their servers.

            We still have to get more details from PayPal before we can make any changes to our scripts to support the changes they have made. All I can say for now is that they have made changes relating to their server certificates.

              Most of the tech stuff is way over my head - but I keep checking the forum most every day to see if a resolution has got any closer

                  I'm going to have to jump on the back of the previous two posts. A great big thank you to everyone's input within this post. It's been a tedious two weeks, especially with no major input form Paypal themselves, however down to the power of the Actinic Community we were able to keep our client upto date with the main issues at hand. We had the modules installed as suggested and eveything kicked back into place again.

                    While we're waiting for the information we need from PayPal, I would like to find out how many people were not able to resolve this issue yet via the Net::SSL route. Could you please comment below this post if that applies to you, and also tell us who you are hosted with?

                    From what we already know about the PayPal change, a fix to the Actinic SSL script will take some time to implement and then test properly. And it's likely to be based on Net::SSL, as the original was. So TBH, getting everyone onto an up to date, PayPal-compatible version of Net::SSL is looking like the best solution in the short term.

                      ActivePerl under Windows: Installing Crypt::SSLeay (inc. Net::SSL) and Net::SSLeay

                      For anyone running ActivePerl / ActiveState Perl under Windows, there's some help in installing Crypt::SSLeay here:-

                      If I remember correctly, we got Net::SSLeay working too by replacing that guide's install line with

                      This apparently got PayPal orders coming through as normal. As described by others, this makes these modules available and means that Perl uses them instead of the Actinic-supplied version.

                      This obviously only helps if you're permitted to install modules, else it appears you'll have to wait until the nice people at Actinic finally figure out what's going on with PayPal. (At least PP finally admitted that they'd changed *something* on their servers; better than nothing, but only just).

                        OK.....my server is now sorted using jmedinger's instructions
                        I refered FastHosts to this thread and they did it in about 1 hour
                        Paypal orders now coming through into Pending

                          A knowledge base article has been created for the fix that seems to be helping quite a few customers solve this problem:

                          I realise this does not solve the problem for all, we are looking into these cases still. Once we have a solution for those remaining sites, we will add to the knowledge base article.

                            Help Needed Please

                            I am unable to ask my server host to install and enable these modules because I have a dedicated server with FastHosts and they say I have to do it myself.

                            The modules are not installed, the server is running Linux Centos 5 and I can get SSH access using PuTTy.

                            Can anyone please instruct me on what I have to do as i am not a programmer.

                              Hi Paul
                              I'm also with fast host dedicated server, Here's what to do.
                              1, open putty - type in the ip number of your server and log in as root.
                              2, type in: yum install perl-Crypt-SSLeay
                              3, follow the instructions ( type yes when asked) and wait for the installer to finish and log out.
                              4, restart your server.
                              Total time about 5 mins.

                                Thanks Chris I have done that and it worked a treat. How pathetic that the Engineer at fasthost support couldn't tell me that.
