HSBC Secure ePayments

it's a difficult decision for me..
I really like the fact that the HSBC Secure epayments page went through to a branded HSBC page at the URL HSBC.com.

The Realex solution can be integrated into a page that looks like its part of your site.. which is a nice touch.. if you think people trust you.. but the realex URL shopandpay.com is not known to me.. so is a bit worrying.

The same goes for Actinic Payments.. how many of my customers would have heard of Actinic.. not many.. but do people care? Maybe I am too paranoid and most people just bash their credit details out all over the place with little concern. The integration of Actinic is certainly a bonus..

I'm looking at Sage Pay as well.. Sage is a PSP I have come across a lot when I'm online shopping.. so I feel there is more brand awareness of them..

Its a bloomin difficult choice.. so many options all doing things slightly differently.

I hear what you're saying, and 10 years ago I would agree.

I think these days the internet and shopping online has dominated so much that people (majorirty) do not really have trust issues. Maybe the older generation, I know my parents wont use their credit cards online.

Just my thoughts anyway, but having that added security knowing that HSBC are dealing with your hard earned cash is a good idea.

Sage Pay is very well known now, I use it and would always recommend it.

I have now started using the Relex integration.. to see how it goes.. As far as the customer is concerned, it looks like the payment is being made on my site, as the template I supplied to Realex is an exact copy of my site.. you would only know you had been redirected if you study the URL. It been up and running since this morning and orders are coming in without issue.. in fact at first glance I'd even say that there are less drop outs than usual, but I'd need to study it for longer to be sure.

The Realex integration was carried out by Realex themselves (or a contractor working for them) while the HSBC integration was one of the few done by SellerDeck (Actinic at the time).

So questions about their integration should be directed to Realex.

I have started the process of switching to Actinic Payments and looks like Actinic maybe being a little ecomic with the truth on a couple of things although it could be argued these are not major problems. I was sure I was told if I switch to Actic Payments and carry on using HSBC then I will not need a new Merchant ID - I would carry on using my current HSBC Merchant ID - this is not true, I am now told HSBC have to provide a new ID.

I was also told once the online application form was submitted it would only be a few days to switch to Actinic Payments. HSBC have just said it will take them 7 days to send out the paperwork for the new ID which then has to be returned and processed - so time lapse - about 2 weeks - not a few days.

On the up-side HSBC have offered me new transaction charge rates with CreditCall which are actually lower than my current charges so at least a silver lining!

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but Realex have said exactly the same thing to me.. that its nothing to do with them and that the required changes need to be done by actinic, and that I need to contact actinic with questions about the integration.

The only UK PSP integrations that SellerDeck (Actinic) have ever done are HSBC, Paypal, Google Payments and Western Union Paycash (now defunct). Plus we worked with Creditcall on their integration.

Everyone else has purchased (or in a few cases been given) our PSP kit and done it themselves.

In the case of Realex they bought it in June 2005.

I should add that we distribute our side for them after the development has been done. That's why they probably think it's down to us.
