    Value Based Shipping/Free Shipping

I have searched and searched for a solution but to no avail. Any help would be truly welcome.
Our shipping costs are based on value of order across three different zones; UK, EEC and ROW. This works fine for 99% of products. However we have now added Gift Vouchers to the site. I am trying to exclude these from our normal value based shipping calculations but to no avail. Since gift vouchers are literally a sheet of paper I wanted a standrd cost of £1.50 to cover poastge. I would even be willing to offer free postage if that was an option. Eg; At the moment a £5 gift voucher is getting a £3.50 shipping charge applied for the UK because shipping charge is based on value.
The user guide tells me that the 'Exclude From Shipping Band Calculation' option "has no effect if the calculation basis for shipping is set to 'Value'."
Is there a work around for this?
    Using Business V8.5.1
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi Simon,

The way I would do this is to use shipping by weight and then set the weight of the product to be equal to its value. You can then change individual weights for any products that don't obey the normal shipping rules.

This can be a pain to do because it's more info to be entered and you have to remember to change the weights when you alter prices. As a result, I thinks it's really only practical when you import or link the prices and weights from an external file such as a spreadsheet.

I don't use V8 so there might be a better way to do this. I'm sure someone else will add to the thread if there is.

Thanks Mike, I was hoping there was an option that didn't involve 'shipping by weight' as this would entail about a weeks worth of data entry on our 1500 or so products. I may have to bite the bullet by the sound of it.
      Thanks

It's not that bad Simon, find out your most common weight, apply that as the default and then you only need to insert weights that are not that default weight.

Point taken Lee, it's now something else to add to the list of many. The change to weight based shipping has been inevitable for a while. I now presume that there is no workaround for the original problem?
          Thanks

It's hard to picture things without them in front of you so i couldn't say for sure. Have a look into categories see if they can do anything for you.

Having said that this is why i always say use by weight, it is just a far more flexible system, i would take the time to convert if i was you, for both now and the future.

Lee, this makes a good point for anyone starting out who thinks it better not to use by weight method, if only I had known then what I know now, hindsight and all that mularky.....
              Cheers
