Physical item with downloadable component

I'd like to send product instructions as a download when the customer orders an item. I've worked out that I can do this by having the instructions as a separate product and using that as a component by it removes the shipping charge for the item. Any suggestions?

The shipping for the item or the shipping for the download? On components you set via tickboxes what it is to use, can you clarify whether you want to charge or not.

The product would be charged for and it's associated shipping.
The Instructions download would be free.

Have you set the product that is the download to have no shipping cost? You can tick the exclude tickbox on the details tab of it. That removes the shipping attached to that product as long as you do not have 'value' based shipping. It will not add to the shipping then.

If you have weight based shipping you can have 0kg as its weight.

There is also a global setting in business settings to exclude digital downloads from shipping costs.

It works ok but now there is a limit of purchasing only 1 item - any ideas?
