    SSL Again!

It seems that in order to obtain SSL certification, I first need to generate a CSR (certificate signing request)

    The following advice is given.

General Points to remember before creating your CSR:

The Common Name field should be the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or the web address for which you plan to use your Certificate, e.g. the area of your site you wish customers to connect to using SSL. For example, an Complete ssl Certificate issued for completessl.com will not be valid for
secure.completessl.com. If the web address to be used for SSL is secure.completessl.com, ensure that the common name submitted in the CSR is
    secure.completessl.com
Now my site will be www.magicalwonders.com but I don't want the whole site to be secure. Just the bit that Actinic uses when taking credit card and personal details. I assume this is the URL that I need to enter as FQDN ?

I'm not sure how to work out the correct URL needed for SSL.

    Anyone got any pointers?

Also, is it O.K to upload Actinic before I have the certificate in place, or would it be best to hold back until that part is sorted?

    Many thanks,

    Myles

Yes. Only when it it forced to SSL by putting HTTPS in the url does this matter. Actinic will switch to SSL for checkout when that option is selected. It really works quite well.

Not sure which part you're saying yes to? would my FQDN need to be www.magicalwonders.com or something like www.magicalwonders.com/acatalog/checkout etc.,

      Thanks for your help.

Not sure who you are using for your ssl certificate but we went to www.trustlogo.com and set up was dead easy, only needing to supply our basic url and any relevent company info they required. Haven't heard of ever needing to supply the actual full url of the secure pages!

          Hi Dave,

The Trustlogo link isn't actually for SSL certificates. Maybe you are using shared SSL?

If you check out this link you'll see what I'm talking about.

            Myles,

Unless I am being completely stupid (few drinks last night so quite possible) they do. See link http://www.trustlogo.com/ssl-certifi...cts/index.html. They offer a basic logo for non ssl and a secure version if you purchase a certificate too!

                Thanks Jo,

If I use www.magicalwonders.com for FQDN will that not secure the whole site and display as https://etc ?

                Dave,

Your first link seemed more connected to selling a trust logo which I understand you can have as a stand alone product. I can see from your second link that they also sell SSL certification.

All I can say is that all the other SSL sites I've looked at require a CSR generated before issuing a certificate.

Had a few drinks last night eh? Sound like you've started Christmas early! I'm jealous!

                Best wishes,
