    Act_ContactUS html error

    Hi
I have just uploaded my first Actinic site and have encountered two errors.

    1. When uploading the site files I got the following error with the Act_ContactUs.html file:
    UNUSED VARIABLES
Warning: Some of the configuration variables were not found in the HTML templates. If you modified these templates, make sure the results are what you want. If you have not modified the templates, the files are probably corrupt. Try restoring them from a backup or contact your Actinic reseller or Actinic Support as appropriate.

When I click on the "Contact Us" button at the top it juts gives a blank email form without our email address filled in. I have checked and our email address is in the configuration. There appear to be missing variables such as the Subject line, header, email address etc I really don't know what to do to correct this.

    2. This may be related to the above. I have been unable to enter our SMTP information. It says it is not valid. I have tried a couple of different SMTP configurations for two email addresses (checking carefully for the specification from my email software) I have and neither work. In the end I had to abandon the option of having orders emailed to myself and customers. Any answers?

I would appreciate any help you can give to either problem.

    Many thanks

If you post which host you are with and someone should be able to give you the correct SMTP settings. You can try using localhost as the SMTP server as that often resolves many issues.

Did the network test wizard work OK?

      Hi
      Thanks for your help.
With a bit of fiddling I have sorted out my SMTP problem and it now works. The network test went ok this time. I also got a confirmation email from Actinic.

This just leaves me with the first problem.

If you have a look at our website: www.cpd4lawyers.com and click on say "Live Online Lectures" and then "Contact Us" at the top of the page, you will go to a page with no form.

      Any ideas?

      Thanks

Use an ftp program to connect to your site and check the permissions on the cgi-bin directory AND the individual files.

The site navigation through cg-bin works and the script id on ca00000x.pl is 2 so that seems to be OK.

Is mf000002.pl there? If not, try an upload. Have you filled in contact details in View | Business settings - Company/Contact?

          Hi
          Thanks for your help.
Is mf000002.pl there? Yes it is.

          I have checked the permissions.
The fm, mojo, plugins & vdsbackup folders are drwxrwxr-t
          mail.cgi is -rw-r--r--
          all other files are -rwxr-xr-x-
          cgi bin is lrwxrwxrwx

I have tried to find what the permissions should be but have not been able to find them. What should mail.cgi be set to?

All the company information is there except VAT and Merchant No.

          Thanks once again..
          Kind Regards

I have no idea what the fm, mojo, plugins and vdsbackup or mail.cgi folders are for - they have nothing to do with actinic.

You should have a cgi-bin folder with permissions of drwxr-xr-x and all the files inside the cgi-bin folder should have that same permission. These permissions should never change, though drwxrwxrwx can be used for the initial upload.

You should have an acatalog folder where all the web pages and images are stored. The permissions on acatalog should be drwxrwxrwx and the same for all files in the folder. Once the site is working, then the permissions can be reduced to drwxrw-rw-, if the site still works reduce to drwxr-xr-x and if the site still works then reduce to drwxr--rw-. If the site stops working at any of these settings, go back up one step on the permissions.

            Hope this helps

              Hi
Thanks once again for your help. It is very kind of you. I have tried your permissions suggestions but they get altered back when I upload the files. (I'm using version 7 catalogue).

In the mean time I have taken up another suggestion on the site and have removed the "Contact Us" link at the top of the page. It's not very satisfactory but is better than visitors going to a blank page.

Perhaps after all one of my files corrupt?

              Thanks once again!

If permissions are being altered and/or your changes are not persistent, then you have a server problem. From the way you described the settings you are on a windows server - can you confirm that and also, as Jont suggested, tell us who your web is hosted with?

                  Hi
                  I'm with "WestHost"

                  I'm on a linux server.

When I upload files with Actinic it says "Setting file permissions".

                  Thanks once again.

                    Anne,

If Act_ContactUs.html is giving you the issues you mentioned, then you can replace it with the original and upload it again... You are using the Best Seller theme, please go into C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\Formats\Themes\BusinessCSS on your system and copy and paste Act_ContactUs.html into your Site1 folder, reinstate the Contact Us button and upload.

By default the contat us form is blank and requires the user to enter their name, a Subject, their email address and a message. On clicking the send button, Actinic send s the form to the email address specified in Business Settings | Company/ Contact.

                    Kind regards,
                    Bruce King

                      Fantastic!! It worked!
It's great to have another part of the site working.
                      Thankyou very much indeed!
