After patiently waiting a month for my isp to get thier act together and actually fix my webspace so it would handle perl scripts I gave up and changed isp's. The people i am with now host on an windoze NT server. When testing from the network area of Actinic I got the following message:
"Unable to move to the acatalog directory "ftp.xxxxx.com.au/xxxxx/cgi-bin/" on the FTP server possibly due to a mistake in the Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory field.
The specified directory does not exist or you do not have access to the directory."
The ISP guy said
"The error states that it is having trouble writing to the catalog directory "acatalog" which apparently should be in the root web directory. I cannot see that this directory exists on the server and I would assume this would generate this problem. Maybe this folder needs to be created in your webspace before it can run. System processes does have write access to your webspace so I do not expect it to be a permissions problem, if you want me to relax the permissions any further I would have to be enabling write access for an anonymous web browser e.g. any person on the web trying to look at your site has permission to write information. I would not expect that this is necessary. Hopefully that will assist you, if not I may need to get a senior tech to have a good look at it for me, I will pass on the info you have given me in any case."
i had to create my own cgi-bin folder which i did but have no idea how to set the permissions on it. I used WS_ftp to have alook at my ftp site but the only thing there was my folder and the cgi-bin folder i created? I just want to upload my site
With the other isp they had a unix server and i could just upload (couldn't do anything else though!!) any help as usual is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Jacy
