    windoze NT server

After patiently waiting a month for my isp to get thier act together and actually fix my webspace so it would handle perl scripts I gave up and changed isp's. The people i am with now host on an windoze NT server. When testing from the network area of Actinic I got the following message:

"Unable to move to the acatalog directory "ftp.xxxxx.com.au/xxxxx/cgi-bin/" on the FTP server possibly due to a mistake in the Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory field.
The specified directory does not exist or you do not have access to the directory."

    The ISP guy said
"The error states that it is having trouble writing to the catalog directory "acatalog" which apparently should be in the root web directory. I cannot see that this directory exists on the server and I would assume this would generate this problem. Maybe this folder needs to be created in your webspace before it can run. System processes does have write access to your webspace so I do not expect it to be a permissions problem, if you want me to relax the permissions any further I would have to be enabling write access for an anonymous web browser e.g. any person on the web trying to look at your site has permission to write information. I would not expect that this is necessary. Hopefully that will assist you, if not I may need to get a senior tech to have a good look at it for me, I will pass on the info you have given me in any case."

i had to create my own cgi-bin folder which i did but have no idea how to set the permissions on it. I used WS_ftp to have alook at my ftp site but the only thing there was my folder and the cgi-bin folder i created? I just want to upload my site

With the other isp they had a unix server and i could just upload (couldn't do anything else though!!) any help as usual is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

Definately do not relax the permissions that is for sure.

From your root folder i.e. /web or /public_html or what ever they have established, ensure you have /acatalog and your /cgi-bin as previously explained.

If they are not present then FTP in and create it and that should do it.

    Hope this helpssss...

      Hi matey,
I created the acatalog and cgi-bin directories on what i think is the root directory. when i configure the network settings with the wizard it asks me if the following path is my web root directory C:/Inetpub/J/xxxxxx.com.au I click that ok it is and then get the following message "the cgi scripts do not have permissions to write to the the catalog web directory".

under C:/Inetpub/J/xxxxx.com.au (shouldn't ftp.xxx.com.au be in there somewhere?)
      I have 2 folders
      acatalog
      cgi-bin

based on that do you have any idea what my settings should be?

      Cheers,

Try asking you host what the full FTP path is for the following HTTP path:

        http://www.mydomain.co.uk/cgi-bin/

as we would expect something along the lines of /path/path/public_html/cgi-bin/ as the answer from them, but you need that info.

Although you might be able to get away with just from the /public_html/cgi-bin/ bit, but ask your host for that info.

Further to this, if you still have problems and I realise that you have already moved host to try and get this working, but did that host state that they support Actinic hosting, i.e. provide assistance and support for that software titles usage on their servers.

To be honest it is not always needed, but it does help.

We along with many others who post within this forum provide Actinic compatible and enabled hosting solutions.

Along with ourselves and for fairness others you might want to look at:

          www.4surehosting.co.uk
          www.pinbrookhosting.co.uk
          www.harlequindomains.com
          www.hazelnet.co.uk

to name but a few you can find in here, plenty of others if you search within the forum and ofcourse if your current host does not work out as expected..

          Best of luck.

            Thanks again,
I've paid over $400 so far for the services of 2 hosts so if they don't get it right then I'm giving up I can't afford to spend anymore at least until i start selling!! I've had enough of sending both of them the mail2host.txt file and both of them saying of course we can do this!! only to find out thier customer service sux and they have no idea of how to set this up. I did send them the file and ask questions before i signed with both of them.

I sent my current host the mail2host text 3 times now (the 3rd time was tonight!!) and this time i have said to them to read it and answer it and send it back to me so i can get this up and running. Instead of looking at it and saying yep all is fine!! That doesn't help me much if they don't send it back!! Please excuse my ranting I'm just a litle disheartened by the whole thing!!

On the bright side the people in this forum have been fantastic, friendly and incredibly helpful and i truly appreciate it
I'm sure all will be better tomorrow

            Cheers,

Are you not covered under some sort of money back guarantee or fit for a particular purpose agreement, especially if you asked about it working with Actinic prior to taking them on for your hosting.
