    Error during webspace setup...

Having had problems uploading to a 2000 server I have arranged new hosting at clara.net.

The configure website details wizard goes up to the point of trying it's 3,000,000 guesses at the "CGI-BIN" address (which always amuses me since the previous step is me TELLING the software where this is!).

This comes up with this error...

An error occured while attempting to change permissions of a file or directory.
There was a failure in connecting to the FTP server in an attempt to execute a FTP chmod command.
The Connection Wizard will not continue. Please configure your network settings through the Advanced | Network Settings dialog.
Contact Actinic Support for any assistance that you may require
So I enter all the correct parameters into the manual Network Settings box and hit test...

    to get this error message

Actinic Ecommerce is not able to run the CGI scripts on the server. It appears as if the scripts are not installed. Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration
    Followed by

The web server returned error code 404 - Requested URL not found. This means Actinic Ecommerce can not execute the CGI scripts on your web site. Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to check web setup.
Needless to say this is just a loop from one method of configuration back to the other....

The acatalog folder exists off the root of the www root as does a cgi-bin folder...

Both are set to chmod 755 as standard but I have tried setting them to 777 as suggested in the advanced guide but this makes no difference....

    HELP!!!!

I don't want to have to try a third host!!! This is starting to cost me money as the site was supposed to be live about a month ago!!!

I've found out what the problem is....

Before paying for hosting at Claranet I made an email enquiry to ask if their Clarahost Starter package would be suitable for a Actinic shop and the reply was a definate yes....

Turns out that after giving them their money and transferring the domain name totally into their control, they've decided to tell me that actually the answer should have been "NO"!!

A decidedly dodgy business practice to say the least.... and this from a "partner" of Actinic!!

God knows how long this is now going to take to sort out!
