    Uploading problems

    Hi,
I have used actinic successfully with other sites, using my normal hosting, but this time I am using the clents hosting and it does not work.

I use the Configure website details and it gets as far as ""trying cgi-bin guesses". It does this several times, then I get the following error message:

"an error occurred while attempting to change permissions in a file or directory.
There was a failure in connecting to the ftp server in an attempt to execute a FTP chmod command.
The connection wizard will not continue.
please configure your network settings through the advanced | Network Settings dialog."

    Here is my export file:

Have you tried using a standard FTP programme to create a cgi-bin folder in the right place and set its properties? This 'kick-start' is often all that's required.

      Hi Bill,
The cgi-bin folder is already in the root of the directory when I log in via ftp. Normally this is fine or should I create another cgi-bin in the actual root of the website?

Please edit your network settings post to remove the ftp username and password.

Well, you can - I found info in the host's knowledebase on setting up cgi and perl scripts to run outside the provided folder.

It *might* make network settings easier to configure.

            All fixed

Thanks for the help, but it is now resolved. The cgi had been switched off.

You should still delete the username and password from your ftp settings above.

I've deleted the details. Probably worth getting a new username and password though.

                  Problems in installing actinic

I'm in process of testing actinic suite.

Although the upload seems to be successful, it's just not running properly as the following error came when I try to add a product to the shopping cart :
Error: System Error: Unable to open content directory. No such file or directory

When I tried to test the site, I got the follwing error msg
"Actinic is not able to run the CGI scripts on the server. It appears as if the scripts are not installed. The most likely cause is that you have an incorrect CGI-BIN URL. If you've never uploaded the site, then you should do it before a download of orders. If you've uploaded the site ever, then Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration."

the acatalog URL is www.consultab.com/nuke_6/acatalog and my cgi-bin directory is www.consultab.com/nuke_6/cgi-bin

                  Please help me out

                  Thx

                    and did you?
have you done a network test?
                    Does it pass?

Indeed, have you searched the forum for the hundreds of times this message has been seen before and compared solutions and results?

(aside....god help me, I'm turning into Malc )

actually, that's probably the first time I have and it's only because of the mood I'm in today
I, at least, don't make a habit of it.
