Bizarre email issues, host is Easyspace

    Hi All,
I've had a pretty thorough look through previous posts, and can't seem to find a solution for my issue.

Basically, my email settings keep failing to be accepted with the following message:

    "Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
    server: passed
    connection: passed
    sockets: passed
    communications: failed
    authorisation: failed
    message:

The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again. If it fails again, then it is possible, you were locked out by a firewall program, or you don't have network connection to this server".

Normal settings and write permissions are OK.

    I've taken the following steps:

    - Switched from wireless to hard wire broadband connection, as this was found to be messing up my settings

    - Rang easyspace and they provided me with an alternative ISP address for the smtp server (10.1.1.200),and it actually went through OK and I received a confirmation email to my Outlook.
I tried it again a little later just to be sure, and it failed!

    - Rang Easyspace again, they did a test with me on the phone, and said everything was fine their end.

    - I have tried various derivatives such as "smtp" "localhost" "smtp@iomartmail.com". I've even tried putting in my mobile number with no luck - only kidding!

    - Turned my Windows firewall off

    - I've tried both checking and unchecking the username and password, no luck.

Seems like I've reached a stalemate - would dearly appreciate some help.

    Many thanks,

    KT.

      Hi,
Sorry, I didn't quite understand that, but if you mean is the email in my business settings, the correct one, then yes. Did I understand your question?

assuming the domain where the shop is is called xyz.com - is the email address in business settings prefix@xyz.com?

some hosts (inc pinbrook) always insist the email address in business settings matches the SMTP server in network settings - this is to prevent abuse.

As a last resort you could try:

smtp server: the IP address above.
Username: clear it completely. i.e. blank.
Password: clear it completely. i.e blank.
            uncheck authorization required

              Hi Mike,
Ok, I tried that, and the test was successful - but what does this mean for customer emails and stuff like automatic digital downloads upon payment?

I'm not sure what you mean. If email is now working then everything is fine.
